I was looking at the info of CKU being held at Disney June of 2003 and was wondering if anyone has ever attended one if these sessions? I was curious what to expect!
Thanks,
Wendy

I saw that too and I'm really torn (I've never been to CKU before). I mean, I love scrapbooking and all, but if I'm at Disney I don't really want to be in some room taking a scrapbooking class, I don't care if it *is* being taught by Becky Higgens! ;)

I know exactly what you mean. I was talking to two women who went to CKU New England last month, and I got the impression that you could really be anywhere, as you would be so focused on CKU that you barely leave the hotel - seems a bit of a waste to hold it at WDW,

Saying that, we've just booked our vacation for 5-19 June, so since I will be at WDW during that time anyway- I am very tempted. Since we are in the UK, and we travel to Florida for 2 weeks, it's not so bad to take 3 days out of my trip and do something else, but I know that I will be jealous of whatever my dd and dh do while I am in class.

I'm going! (God willing!) :)

I've been reading the CKU message boards on the CK site to get a feel for what types of classes they offer, how things are scheduled, etc. Thursday is registration and a make & take demo day followed by a pep rally. Classes and a crop are held on Friday and Saturday, and "commencement" is Saturday night. It sounds like so much fun! I guess the local scrapbook stores usually offer goodie bags and discounts to CKU attendees, too.

We've already made our ressies for Fort Wilderness. We're going to arrive the day before CKU and then stay for a few days after to enjoy the parks. I can hardly wait!

For those who are worried about missing time in the parks, this is how I look at it: Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days normally, plus I believe that "Gay Day" falls on that weekend as well (isn't it always the first weekend in June?), so the packed parks are the last place I want to be! I figure by Sunday it might be a bit less crowded, esp. if the Gay Day/Week crowd heads home.

maybe I'll see you there!

From what I understand, they encourage people to group into 'dorms', it would be fun to have a Dis dorm.

Will you go back to Ft. Wilderness at night, or will you stay at the convention? This is the part I can't determine, would i miss out on the atmosphere if I went back to my family each evening (we don't have a hotel yet, so they could be at the coranado springs, or elsewhere onsite or off)

Hi, Bev:

I feel like I know you from our DisneyScrappers list and here! LOL

I'm planning to go back to the campground each night. From what I've read on the CKU board, the only "extra" stuff that goes on at the host hotel is door decorating. The two crops go 'til midnight at the host hotel, and then I imagine everyone falls into bed! LOL So I don't think you'd miss too much if you didn't stay at CS. If we didn't have our camper though, I think I'd try to stay there, just for convenience sake.

The gals on the CKU board have said that dorm members don't have to be staying at the host hotel or even the same hotel as each other, that the "dorm stuff" (games and competitions, I think) takes place at the crops. I think it would be lots of fun to have a DIS dorm!!! :D

Creating Keepsakes University :)

It's a 3-day conference that CK holds a few times a year throughout the country with demos, classes & crops. A lot of the big names in scrappin' teach the classes (Becky Higgins, Rebecca Sower, etc.).

HTH!

I am so excited and can hardly wait, I am defitntly going, I haven't really worked out the details yet, but if Dh and the kids come they might spend the first few days in Tampa with his mom while I am at CKU then meet me over there after the show. I really do not want to be distracted by anything while at CKU. A good friend of mine just got back from the one in UTAH and had a great time. I think this is probably the ultimate experience for a scrap booker. I go to WDW at least once a year every year CKU is probably a once in a lifetime experience.

Allison:

That's wonderful! I'm glad to hear it's gotten such good reviews.

I rec'd some PMs on 2Peas advising me to consider staying at CS during CKU -- dh and I talked it over, and we decided that we'll spend the first 4 nights of our trip at CS and then move over to Ft. Wilderness for the last few. I called FW and they told me we can leave our camper in their parking lot while we stay at CS. So now I get to be "on campus"!! :)

I think I'm going to go also. It will be great to meet some of you guys in person. We only live about an hour away but we love to go for three or four short trips each year and stay on property. I just can't decide if I will feel left out or my husband will feel pooped out having to run after the boys by himself! It seems a waste to go alone. I think I'll go and see if my inlaws want to come and the boys can all play. I don't know if my SIL would want to do the CKU thing or not. She isn't yet into Scrapbooking, gasp I know it's hard to believe!LOL
Either way I really want to do a CKU and this is the closest chance I've had. I hate to fly and I love Disney. It's got to be a sign!!!!!!!!

That's exactly what I'm wondering - Will I be jealous if Dh and DD have been to Magic Kingdom without me, and will my dh be exhausted trailing her around the park on his own.

I almost want him to sit in the villa and do boring things for 2 days so I don't miss out! LOL! I don't think I would get away with that though..

Well I guess I am scrapbooker first because I have no regrets about spending my days at the CSR conference center taking classes from the biggest names in scrapbooking. I can hardly wait, I figure we go to Disney every year this is probalby a once in a lifetime event for me. I am worried about DH and the kids, I think they will probably stay with MIL in Tampa and then meet me in Orlando after the convention. I know I sure don't want any distractions.

Allison

I e-mailed my DH about CKU (we are separated while in the process of moving), and he told me to go for it! I don't know if I'll stay down there because we'll be living in Tampa. Maybe I can talk him into a long Disney weekend. That time of the year, I will not envy him running after the kids in the summer heat while I am indoor scrapping and learning in the air conditioning all weekend!:D

It will be great!!!

Hey - sounds like a DIS dorm is coming together :D

Do you think we need to book Coranado Springs already?? I don't want to stay there if I don't get a place at CKU because I'd rather stay at Port Orleans. But, if I am at CKU it would be easier to stay right there.

more decisions to ponder....

Bev

I have a friend who is interested in going, but I agree with the previous posters who can't stand to be in Orlando and not at WDW. I do hope to go to CKU someday, but not this time.
