Evening entertainment

Yet more inane questions!

I can't promise there won't be any more questions after this, but I will promise there won't be many

I know there are the themed dinner nights, Wishes, Illuminations, the Disney shows, Cirque du soleil etc, and also plenty of night life for over 21's. But are there many more informal places a family could go, sit down at a table and just have a relaxing beer whilst watching some light entertainment. I dunno, a bit of music, comedy etc? Just somewhere to unwind a little? I'm not a big drinker, but I would like to be able to just relax with a beer some nights and still have a little light entertainment for the family. We are staying at the Comfort in about 1 mile away from DTD.

My God, is it really only 5 weeks to go this Friday?

You might like Raglan Road, the new Irish pub/restaurant at Pleasure Island. There is no admission charge and the house band is great. They start at about 9:00 playing traditional Irish music, then they rock it up more as the night goes on. By the time they close at 2:00, they are all U2, Van Morrison, blues, country and more. No pressure to drink, excellent food, family friendly atmosphere.
Just be careful about the speed limit! It's 35 on the road by PI and they DO enforce!

We find that after a full day in the parks and staying for the fireworks etc, then getting back to accommodation, there is no time for evenings out. We plan a few visits to dinner theatres but on those days we don't do the parks in the afternoon but have a rest instead. The dinner theatres we have enjoyed most are Pirates (just off I Drive) and Arabian Nights (Kissimmee) The food is not gourmet but eatable and the entertainment is fun.

I find the general atmosphere around the boardwalk or downtown disney to be nice and relaxing, like you we aren't big drinkers and having a child means we are restricted to not going into the clubs.

Have to say I agree - hadn't thought of that but Boardwalk is lovely in the evening. Plenty of street entertainers and things to see.

Boardwalk is lovely.

We also did the Mickey's backyard BBQ, it was quite good lots of charcaters.

Boardwalk is definitely on my planning for this year. If we have already been to disney in the day we can just move on to EPCOT to park and walk there.

universal studios city walk area is nice,there are some nice restaurants,outside seating and a cinema.I have to say though you can't beat dtd for chilling out in the evening.

You could try a dinner show. We have been to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede the food is good and the show was quite entertaining. It's makes a nice change

Raglan Road sounds good Are there many things for family entertainment in DTD? I got the impression most was for adults and in Pleasure Island. Do you have to be 21 to enter Pleasure Island, or is that just for some of the clubs? It's so local for us that we will probably spend a lot of evenings down there if it's suitable.

we used to take clothes to change into in the evening.. we never used them, and now we dont even take clothes for the evening, as you never go back to the apartment, you just stay out!

In the parks there is so much to do in the evening, i would be amazed if you had any time - but I second Dixie Stampede and the Boardwalk!

Our favourite spot is the outside seating area at House of Blues. They have live entertainment which is usually very good, and it's a great spot for people watching. The beer ain't bad either...

Hi

DTD has lots to keep you entertained in the evening. House of blues has a terrace bar out front with live music. Not been to Raglan road but it's top of my list for next time (still working on DH- no luck yet )

You could catch to boat over to POR, they have a bar with a entertainer 3 times a week which all the children loved when we were there.

The boardwalk is a quick bus ride from DTD, loads to see and do there. If you like sports ESPN bar is good. If you like beers there is the Big river grill which brews there own beers- you can get a sampler with about 6 different ones to try.

LeCras / CharleyUK, the House of Blues sounds ( and looks - I've looked it up ) fantastic. As a guitarist myself, I think I will have to be dragged out of that place! Is it best to book with that place, or is that always good practice in Florida anyway? I wanted to book online as they don't take telephone reservations, but it won't take my international phone number I have emailed and await their reply.

You only need to book HOB to eat and thats inside. The outside terrace is 1st come 1st served but people come and go all the time.
Just one tip- the glasses on the bar are for tips, my DH thought they were for him to pour his beer into, the bartender couldn't stop smiling and when we realized what he had done we cracked up laughing-it was rearly funny, he went bright red.

On a slightly fifferent note, If we just pop in for a drink, can we just grab a table, or do we have to ask for a table. You know, When we return from our first visit, I'm going to cringe when I see how silly these questions sound!

Bob Jackson provides great family entertainment in the River Roost Lounge at Port Orleans Riverside. His schedule is here

Hoop-dee-Doo musical revue is a great night out. Lots of food & drink and a great show to go with it. Only problem is getting in as you have to book in advance, but you could get lucky with a cancellation. You book through WDW dining. Don't try Pirates adventure. Over priced, awful food, average show then they expect a 15% tip. Avoid like the plague.
