Even I didn't think conservatives where this crazy...

I don't see a problem with the vaccine being used and I am Conservative, however I agree with the gist of what the Conservatives are saying which in my mind is it should not be manditory. We in America recognize the rights of many groups to refuse medical care. Christian Scientist being one such group. I do not agree with the arguement that that it will make girls more sexually active. However I do not and would agree to ever making such a treatment manditory. That violates certain constitutional freedoms.

I agree with this post!

I don't have a problem with this. I wouldn't keep my daughters from getting such a vaccine. Who knows, later in life they could be married to some jerk who brings something home....

Although I would oppose it being manditory, I disagree with being any kind of open invitation to premarital and casual sex. I mean, good gracious, when a girl decides to become sexually active, she might fear pregnancy and AIDS, but which young girl is going to say "crap, I better abstain, I may get human papilloma virus". Get serious. :confused3

Disease is no respector of morality. All it takes is one "slip" to expose your daughter to a life threatening disease; young people do stupid things (I sure did) but if I, as a parent, can do anything to lessen the consequences, I'm all for it. I don't want my children to be promiscuous, but I also don't want them to die because of it.

But to require this vaccine is probably not necessary.

I would prefer to save the required vaccines to those that cover diseases that may have the potential to spread quickly to epidemic proportions. For that virus to advance to cervical cancer would take years.

I am still trying to figure out how an immunization such as this would encourage promiscuity. :confused3 You just don't hear alot of teens voicing fear of human papiloma virus. :confused3

Now an AIDS vaccine......which could clearly "encourage" some to take on premarital sex earlier...I might be ok with that vaccine being manditory - the effects of AIDS are devastating to our citizens and our resources.

I am another one in agreement with this post.

I lost my father to cancer a few years ago. Anything that could prevent cancer is a godsend in my book.

Cancer does take years so Teens, young adults would not be deterred by the thought of a possible, eventual cancer anyway! The thought of a possible ,eventual skin cancer does not prevent teens fron tanning or even using tanning beds.
But dead is dead. My sister passed last year from a gynecological cancer of some type. She was first diagnosed in last Mid September and died Jan. 10 at age 53. That is too young.

Whether it is mandatory probably also decides if it has to be covered by insurance. Would rather have it mandatory with people allowed to opt out as they are now.

My DDs 16 & 17 are actually in the study for this vaccine. I think its wonderful and if, at the conclusion of this study, it is actually proven to work I would like to see it given along with other vaccines like the Hepatitis B.

BTW, I'm conservative, too.

Chicken pox vaccine and flu vaccines are not mandatory yet they are covered by insurance.

Don't get me wrong, it would be rather silly to deny your child a vaccine (that is proven safe) that could eventually save her life, but mandatory....I don't think so. I would "CONSIDER" an AIDS vaccine as mandatory because of the epidemic proportions of the disease and the drain on our resources.

Again, most teenagers have never even heard of the virus, so it is obscure to think that a vaccine to prevent this infection and eventually cancer would deter them. If fear of having AIDS or pregnancy as a teen does not stop them from havng sex, how in heaven's name will a shot to prevent a virus they never have heard of prevent them? :confused3
