Mom has recently started having severe hip problems. She can't walk very far without having difficulties. I have rented her an ECV for the whole length of the trip with the intention of leaving it either at the resort or I. The trunk but I am beginning to have my doubts about her being able to get around the Dream while we are in the cruise. Will it fit through the door way and in our room?

Unless you have an accessible stateroom, the ECV may not fit through the door. I have heard some people report removing arm rests to fit, but note that once inside the stateroom door (for most staterooms), there's little place for it to go because you enter into a narrow hallway with the closets on one side and the bathrooms on the other, with the queen bed at the end -- and the ECV won't fit past the bed. And it can't be left in the hallway or it blocks anyone else trying to get past (other ECVs or wheelchairs, the stateroom hosts' carts, strollers, etc.).

Could you rent her a folding wheelchair or maybe a rollator for use on the ship? Or depending how close you are to your sail date, you may be able to change staterooms. If you want to bring the ECV, I'd call DCL to see if they can help move you to an accessible room.

Enjoy your land and sea vacation!

I think you should do a wheelchair for the cruise. First, you can get a travel, portable wheelchair that will fold up when you need to get into the cabin.

Next, there are times the ship is slanted. The power of the water makes it this way. I would fear the scooter could tip over. It's safer with a 4 wheeler, but I wouldn't take the chance.

There can be a lot of blind corners when she is turning where she could run someone over. She might even get too close to the stairs and have a accident.

I would hate going up and down the ramp with a scooter as you exit the ship or get back on. It's quite an incline.

If she was a seasoned veteran using a scooter I might not feel as concerned, but I would go with the wheelchair. I think your mom would be happier, too.
