EVC Help????

We will be traveling to WDW soon. I have been researching ECV rentals in park/off site, etc. We are taking my dad who is 80. He can still get around pretty well but does have a limp and tires out quickly. He has never used an EVC. I think I have decided to rent one from off site and have them come by and deliver, set up, show him how to operate.

We will be driving to the parks as we are staying off site.

My main concern is this.......once we reach the parks we will have to park with the general population as dad will not request a handicap tag/sticker/thingy. How will we get from the parking lot to the entrance???? I don't think the EVC will go on the tram. Most parks this wouldn't concern me to much as we generally get there pretty early so it's not a huge hike......the one that worries me the most is DHS as it's parking lot just seems far away (yes we've walked it on several occasions).

Suggestions please.

Thanks!
Cristy

Oh yeah.....and please pray......he might get mad at me for doing this...I just know he is going to tire out really quickly in the heat. We took him to Gatlinburg a couple of weeks ago for the weekend and I could tell he was having a hard time with all the walking. I don't want him to feel confined to it.....more or less to use for long hauls and through the parks. He would be fine to park it with the stroller parking area and stand on line with us.

You may have already considered, but be sure your vehicle will hold the ECV, or conversely that you get one that will fit in your vehicle. Some are more easy than others to dismantle for transit. Since you are planning this on the sly...Can you quietly get a letter from his doctor and get the hangtag in his name?

I understand that you can ask to park in a closer spot if you tell them you have a scooter and no sticker. You are right that you can't take the scooter on the tram. You just have to ride the scooter to the gate. Those that are not riding the scooter can either walk along with the scooter or take the tram. Maybe one of you want to take the scooter to the gate for Dad and put him on the tram. He might be more comfortable with that.

Thanks for the info! I guess we could always just have DH ask to pull around and drop us off.....I know there is a drop off point at the TTC (not sure about the other parks)......only problem......last time DH dropped us off at the TTC he couldn't figure out how to get back in the MK parking lot to park and kept driving in circles. I am thinking he would have to exit and go back through again.

You need to be sure that the company you choose will actually come meet with you - there is only about one or two that do that as a matter of course.

I know that beuna vista scooter just dropped off my powerchair (and I do NOT recommend them!)
