Eurostar help please

We've never used Eurostar before as we live in Newcastle, however we're having a few days in London followed by Eurostar to DLP over Easter. The train he's trying to book is one where we change from Eurostar to another train at Lille, however the Eurostar site says that we dont need (and cant have!) seat reservations for the Lille - Marne le valle section of the journey. Anyone comment/adivse? Are we likely to be able to get seats? There are four of us and we're leaving london at about 10.00ish. I know in theory there's a direct train, not sure why we're not getting that one but he has researched at length!

Your most likey not getting the direct train as the cheap tickets go quickly and they soon bump the price up.

Haven't ever heard of problems getting seats on the train at lille, but then again i've never heard of people not having seats allocated for the train. Im sure others on here with more experience will be able to help more.

When i transferred at Lille i was on a double decker TGV so that may be why we had allocated seats. It was about a third full when i went to DLP. The attendants all spoke English there and were quite helpful.

We booked Eurostar and chose to change at Lille because it was so much cheaper and had the same response - that we couldn't book seats for the 2nd leg .When tickets came the seats are allocated and all together
