European Currency Available on Board?

For those doing the TA or European sailings, does DCL offer a currency exchange on board? I am sure the exchange rate would not be as good as using an ATM, but it would be convenient to exchange a small amount of US currency for our port visits.

Boy did you read my mind -- I was about to start a thread with this very question and then saw your's. I know they had this service in 2007, but wasn't sure if they still provided it. Thanks all for the information. Do they also have Canadian money available for exchange?

We plan on buying a good portion from our local AAA, but just in case we need a small amount while in transit.

If you do use a credit card, try to get one with no foreign transaction fees (like Capital One -- hate the company but the card came in handy in Europe last year with no transaction fees - saves some bucks).

?

They stopped in Iceland for three days this week, and will stop in Iceland three days in mid July as well. Not just one stop.
In Ireland they have Euros as their currency which is used in a lot of countries the ship is docking at. Iceland has its own currency.

It depends on which part of Ireland you are visiting. Northern Ireland (Belfast for instance) takes the pound.

But who knows what currency will be where by next year LOL

Yes- aware, thanks. But as the quoted post below, The Island is made up of two countries, Ireland, - Euros, and Northern Ireland has the £.

Down, but not out! We will continue to have the Great British Pound!

When we took our Med cruise in 2014, I got some currency from the local AAA office.

AAA generally offers a rather bad exchange rate. Take their "No fee, no commission" rate that they give you and compare it with the actual exchange rate that day (look it up in Google). I think you'll be surprised at how much you're actually being charged.

I have always been told that the rates you find online are for large bank/business transactions and that those are not the rates you will get for smaller transactions. I have researched several options, including Wells Fargo and online purchase of currency, and they are always in line with what AAA is quoting, except AAA doesn't charge me postage. :confused3 If you know somewhere else to purchase that is lower than AAA and doesn't charge a transaction fee or postage, I'd be glad to know it.
