Hope this is allowed... I just got some currency yesterday (we plan to do 2/3 currency, 1/3 charge on hotel easypass and pay on debit card).

Got a rate of 1.218 to the £ which I was quite pleased with (it was 1.091 last time we went!). I had looked to get online with Sainsburys Bank as they offer nectar points (which I collect), but then realised that my bank would charge 2% transaction fee so I got the cash out and went to a local travel agent instead!

So, what rate have you all been getting? I keep reading it may drop slightly due to pressure on the government to come to the aid of exports but who knows? :confused3 On the flipside, I've read it will continue to increase....?

thats a good instore rate!!! mine round here were less than that :( i still not bought mine - but im hopin to get sum next week......

i cud order online but as u say, u end up payin a charge...... wish u cud see the store rates online so knew when the stores have a good rate haha

I bought last weekend at 1.214. I used the thomas cook reserve and collect service - you get a better rate than walking into the store and know what you will get before you go. :goodvibes

We got ours tonight without prior ordering from our local Thomas Cook at 1.20 - we drew the cash out of the wall as we were told that our debit card might charge us otherwise???

I remember my first trip to DLP in 2002 and it was 1.5 Euros to the pound!

oooo didnt know they did one jo!!! will go n check it out now lol

Thanks for sharing ladies :thumbsup2

Actually, to be fair anything around the 1.20 rate is good!

It is a local travel agent I used Nikki - they always have really good rates. Are there any local agents near you that you could telephone and ask first, rather than trailing around them all? You will probably find that they are much the same anyway. Jo's tip about Thomas Cook is a good one - never knew that but will keep it stored for another time :thumbsup2.

You do get a better rate but as I expect you've got to pay at time of ordering I'd imagine you'll get charged a cash advance fee so this'll need taking into consideration.

When I want euros I usually order online from the Post Office as their rate is usually pretty good - you get the choice of having free delivery or collection at your local one plus if you've got a PO credit card there's no cash advance or other fees.

You pay on collection. :goodvibes I always reserve and then pay cash. You can also order currency on the website for delivery and then you obviously have to pay online.

Really? That's good to know. Think I might be buying my next lot of euros from there now, thank you! :goodvibes

I use a pre-paid travel card from mytravelcash.com, you load money on it via a debit card in Euro and just withdraw cash or use it as a mastercard. They're offering €1.1978 to the £ just now which is better than the €1.10 I got last year. No fees for loading, none for withdrawing unless the ATM charges. ATM in the arcade and at the post office next to the station both accepted it with no issues as did every ATM we tried in Condette and Paris. You can top it up as well though you need to phone or use the internet.

The only downside is that you have to collect on the day that you reserve to get the rate you reserved at. One tip is that they don't update their rates until about 9.30 in the morning so if you see a good rate you can reserve first thing in the morning the next day to collect then.

The rates I'm seeing everywhere are all around the 1.2 mark - I got paid yesterday so I plan to get my euros sorted this weekend. I don't think there's much point trying to guess which way the euro will go these days :confused3 I am happy enough with 1.2.
That's a good rate from your local travel agent, I'll have a look at a couple in Glasgow before buying! Thanks.

I got greedy with the exchange rate :( It was 1.23 the other day, now its 1.21 :( So instead of €615 for £500 its €605, but still a lot better than I got last year!

Thats with Thomas Cook, Dawson & Sanderson had a better rate yesterday, but its £5 delivery unless you're changing over £500.
