Today I received the notice for the annual meeting, and it states the estimated BWV dues for 2004 will be $4.2515. (I figured they would go up.)

I also own at the BCV but received nothing yet regarding that meeting and the BCV dues. Does anyone have theirs yet?

Thanks.:earsgirl:

thanks for the info.
so it's a $0.1431 change...
about a 3.5% increase.
higher than current inflation... *sigh*
oh well.

has anyone gotten the notice for VWL or BCV yet?

Since all the DVC resorts got the new DVD players in the villas, I guess every DVC resort's dues will go up appropriately to pay for the new fangled modern technology! Gotta keep up with the times, I guess! LOL!;)

Thanks for posting. I hope everyone will share the info as the dues come out for the various resorts. They tend to be issued in the order of when the meetings are scheduled -- VWL and BCV are on 12/2; Vero on 12/5; HHI on 12/8 and OKW and BWV on 12/10.

If anyone has time on their hands, you might want to compare the budget breakouts year-to-year to see where the increases are coming from. Last year it was primarily insurance costs.

I didn't realize all the resorts got the new DVD players. Will they be installed at VWL by January? If so, I'll have to take a DVD along. ;)

I just received the HH dues estimate. 2004 fees there will be $3.8624 (2003 was ~$3.69). I'll sort thru the increase later when I have time.

So... thus far ...

BWV - $4.2515
HH - $3.8624
SSR - $3.80

They replaced the VHS players with new DVD players. What did they do with the old VHS players? They could sell them on E-bay, recoup some of the cost to keep the increase to a minimum.

I always have a problem when increases are higher than inflation.

Two comments on this.

1. When one says "inflation", as is generally understood, it refers to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). That is an index of the pricing of many consumer products that we all buy.

The CPI does not measure many of the costs that go into maintenance fees....cost of labor, overhead, insurance, taxes, etc. So if, like last year, the cost of insurance skyrockets, then it may make maintenance dues go up more than the CPI "inflation" rate.

It's apples and oranges.

2. I think a better comparison would be...what is the real rate increase on WDW resorts in general (non-DVC)? If those rates don't go up...or go up and are heavily discounted through codes such that they didn't really go up....then this increase would become more of a concern.

But if WDW resort rates go up more than 3% or so, then DVC just continues to be an even better value.

This is overly simplified, and many can poke holes in some aspects of it, but I think it does provide a better comparison than the CPI.

Recently I took a look at the resort rates for 2004 and, if I recall correctly, I don't believe there will be any increase from 2003 to 2004. I did notice a few "view" changes but overall there is virtually no change in 2004 for most Disney resorts.

We can add OKW to the list -- $3.6766 (vs. 3.4944 last year). That's about a 5% increase. Like Doc, I'll try to look at the breakout later today.

I should know this, but is there any limit to the percentage increase each year or can they increase it by any amount?

They are limited to a 15% increase in any one year. They haven't come close to that yet.

Also remember that rack rates are what are published for the WDW resorts. They might not go up in rack rates, but the discounts might be lessened or discontinued. That would be the same as a price increase. I don't think anyone has any real data on the real average costs per room charged by Disney in 2003.

sap1227, do you happen to know what the VBR subsidized dues were for last year 2003?

i have jotted down that 2002 was $3.33/pt and then the figure i saw for 2003 was the same # as the one for newer purchase ($4.3726/pt).

btw, thanks again to everyone for posting the #s.
i have a chart in progress analyzing the percent increases/decreases over the years...

ok here is the Link to my Table of Dues Increase/Decrease History

3% increase at BWV..Thats it...What a deal!!!!! I'll take that every year thankyou.

I find it very interesting after looking at disneyberry's table with the % of increases over the years that BWV, which is constantly tooted by some as having such high dues compared to OKW, has actually had the lowest overall % of dues increases. Matter of fact other than '98 & '99(when OKW built the additional units so therefore had a substantial amount of villas added to the inventory to bring the cost of their dues down) BWV has consistently had a lower % of dues increase every year when compared to OKW. Very interesting especially considering BWV has more amenities like the pool slide maintenance, life guard's salaries, room service costs/room service CMS, valet parking costs/salaries, etc., to pay for that OKW does not even have to account for in their budget. Since these amenities/guest services are not offered at OKW, they are of course not part of the operating budget/costs.

yep, after i ran the numbers and compared BWV to the other resorts, i realized that next year's 3.5% increase isn't that bad. :)

We just bought this year, so I am unsure of what the dues would have been. I thought I had read here that they did not have the 2 different rates anymore???????

Sorry, wish I could help!

OKW is an independent DVC resort. The other on property resorts are adjuncts to established resorts. I wonder if those DVC properties have an advantage in cost sharing common services and operating costs, particularly transportation, bell services, front desk, housekeeping and the like.
