We are travelling to Disney for the first time this November. We are planning on going to disney world for 3-4 days followed up by a 3 night Disney Cruise. I have nothing booked other then the cruise as I am trying to work out the cost and benefit of on site vs off site, meal plan vs no meal plan etc.
It will be my husband and I with our 2 kids (7 and 5). Hoping someone might be able to give me an idea on what I could expect to pay if I do not purchase the meal plan.
Thanks!

We've never gone with a meal plan, but usually we have Tables in wonderland discounts, or AP/DVC discounts. For our family of 3, we typically budget $100 a day, but we definitely have days where we're way under, or a little over, depending on where we eat.

For us, we've tried to do the math out and haven't found it beneficial to get a meal plan, but we're usually staying at a DVC room so it would be an add on...

Really depends on where you like to eat. Are you going to do Character meals? Table service? all Counter service. Do you drink?

We check out menus and then do the math. For us meal plan doesn't make sense, as 3 of my 4 children are now considered Disney Adults and my 10 and 15 year olds eat very lightly.

With kids at that age, the DDP may work to your advantage if you plan on doing character meals and/ or buffets. As others have said, look at menus and prices at allears.net.

I'm also an advocate for staying onsite. Not only is it convenient with Disney transportation and other perks but also the experience is enhanced by being in the Disney "bubble".

If you do counter service, it will be easy to stay under $100 a day. If you do table service or character meals, you need much more!

We have been renting points so we haven't donedining plan.
My kids dOnt eat a whole lot. Girls 9,6,1.
So we don't see the benefit yet for us. I try to average 100 a day on food. We normally do like 2-3 character meals durring stay and eat breakfast most days at room. But when we're at park, my wife and I normally split a QS meal and end up eating the rest of kids meals. I don't get really Hungary there for some reason. Probably most of money is spent on drinks and snacks. And my baby loves the pickles. When they get older I will probably do meal plan. Just not yet. Although I have been trying to see if
Cheper to pay for mod and get free dining but I think still cheaper for us to
Rent a deluxe and pay for food.
