Espn 5k

29 days to go and its not even at 50% yet (no percentage posted).

I did it last year and its a good race but...$45 is alot of money for a 5K and its the weekend before Princess weekend.

Think it will be around for 2011?

I wouldn't bank on it. Disney likes to shut down races after a few years if they don't do well(Minnie 15K & ToT 13K). This race is headed that way.

I wouldn't be surprised if it goes. I always looked at this race and the National Kidney Foundation race before it as events for the locals. Granted, I did do the Kidney race but that was because I happened to be in town.

The problem with the shorter races (unless they are part of a weekend like the one for F&W or the marathon) is that I couldn't justify making a trip for a 5K. That is the reason I never did the ToT or the RFtT. It wasn't that I didn't want to do them but if I was going to make a trip around a run it had to be at least a half, especially for what Disney charges.

I have struggled with this one as well. The medal was VERY nice, but FL is a long way from NC, and I'd need a roomie and a killer SWA ding fare to even consider it. Just a lot of cash for a 5K -- though the weekend sounds like a blast!

Last year lots of cast members signed up because they offered a discount at the end. (The discount was offered after my coworkers and I signed up and were told too bad, I think either offer it from the beginning or don't offer it at all and have a low turnout.) Anyways, they are offering the same $5 discount this year but I think its one of those, already done it so don't need to do it again type things along with lots of cast member hours being cut/less money for non essentials.

The other issue for Florida runners is that it is the same weekend as Gasparilla over in Tampa. There's a marathon, a half and a 5k over there and a lot of the locals choose that.

I'm doing it this year because I'm trying to do all the Disney 5k's. The only reason I think it might last is because of the re-theming of Wide World of Sports to ESPN and that it's a part of the ESPN weekend festivities.
