Day 1, Saturday, December 6, 2003
Players:
Me
DH
Courtney (DD, 7 years)
Nicholas (DS, 14 months)
We finally arrived at AKL. We had breakfast at Boma in 2001 (well, everyone except Nicholas who was not here yet) and I had fallen in love with AKL then. This hotel is just beautiful! If I could have my house done in all of this wood and African decor, I would become a hermit. Robert stayed behind with the car and luggage while I took the kiddos to get checked in. After Robert had given our luggage to bell services, I had him occupy the kids so I could sneak off to the gift shop to get a couple of surprises for the kids. On our last trip, I had ordered a gift basket from a florist and it came with a lot of snacks that we did not like, so I thought this time, I would just sneak a couple of plush into the room before the kids got there, so Courtney might think Mickey and Minnie had sent those since they knew we were coming- hey, she bought that story back in 2001.
Courtney wanted to stay and watch the animals from our balcony, but we had more pressing things to do at Epcot. We got our vouchers for dinner with the CP package at Akershus at AKL guest services and hopped the bus to Epcot. Note, transportation was very good at AKL; we never had to wait long for any bus and they usually weren't overly crowded. We had planned on getting to Epcot earlier, but due to the driving excursion, we were running behind. We only had time for a couple of things before dinner. Spaceship Earth is our usual first ride and we also thought this would be a good first ride for Nicholas. Not a long wait at all. Nicholas seemed to be in awe of everything- his big blue eyes taking it all in. We stopped by Ice Station Cool and tricked Courtney into drinking the Beverly- :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:
We strolled over to Norway and spent a couple of minutes looking in the Puffin's Roost and then checked in for dinner. We had not been since they changed the set-up with the hot items having to be ordered. I really enjoyed the cold items on the buffet and loved the flourless chocolate cake- it does not sound that appetizing but I thought it was great. Nicholas also ate very well- he loved the cold ham and the eggs. Courtney and DH thought it was so-so. I am confused though- our waiter looked Nordic but sure sounded American. Aren't the WS CMs supposed to be from that particular country? Not that I care, service was quick and very friendly. We will definitely return.
We rode Maelstrom and then headed to Mexico to get a quick ride on El Rio del Tiempo before the 8:15 CP. I know its not the most exciting ride but DD and I always enjoy it, and Nicholas seemed to like it, too. Nicholas would turn his little body back and forth- that is his way of dancing- he looks like he is doing the twist. Mexico is where we discovered we had left the diaper bag at the hotel. We went to the baby care center and bought a small package of diapers and wipes- we were impressed with how nice the baby care center was.
We hurried over to get in line. The line for the CP package seating was very long since we did not get there very early. The line stretched across the border of many countries. WOW- an international line- that's REALLY long. We still got great seats anyway. Rita Moreno was our narrator and we all thought she did a great job. DH and I were worried about how Nicholas would behave, but he did really well and sat there and listened to the music. Courtney, OTOH, became bored toward the end and was ready to leave.
We skipped out a few seconds early to beat the crowd to the bus. We learned that night that we must always bring our gloves and hats to the parks instead of leaving them in the hotel rooms. It gets cold once the sun goes down. BBRRRR!!!

Coming up....
MK, Studios, and Boma
