I don't know if I'm brain dead or what, but could someone please explain to me what they were trying to do on ER. Were they going back and forth or were they showing different points of view? I was totally confused.

It was supposed to show Carter having a horrible day shift, while Pratt had a great night shift (last one at County) on the same day as a solar eclipse. The action kept shifting back and forth between the two shifts sometimes focusing on the same patient being treated by the different shifts. As a "side" story, they showed Corday helping Romano get through his amputation.

Hope that helps. Best I can do wothout spoilers.

Carter was on the day shift and Pratt was on the night shift. they were running parallel stories of the two shifts. many of the patients Carter treated during the day wound up with Pratt that night -- example, Heather, the drowning victim. Carter told her dad she might not make it, but Pratt was able to tell the dad she'd recover.

the gang member was treated by Carter and left the ER after attacking a member of a rival gang, and returned to the ER when Pratt was there, and died.

when Pratt was treating the firefighter, you saw the woman wand two kids whose husband had died earlier. later you saw Carter treating her husband.

and so on.

It was good in theory, but it took me awhile to catch on to what they were doing, and I found it a little confusing.

So, next week, will the season ender just be a Carter/Luca story without the others, or will it switch between Africa/Chicago to show everyone?

I seem to think it will just be them, as others kinda had their story for the season finished last night: i.e. Abby being ticked at Carter for leaving: Romano losing his arm and telling what's her name he loved her: Pratt leaving, then deciding to stay.

Such a good show, can't wait for fall now!:)

I was quite confused last night, even though I knew what they were doing. Maybe it's because I wasn't giving it my full attention. Interesting idea - nice to shake up the format a little, but I'm not sure it "worked".

Last night's show totally blew my mind. I hope they don't do that again. It was hard to keep separate.

On another note, what do you think might happen between Corday and Romano?

I love this show. It took me a little while to catch on last night but it was very interesting. Can't wait til next week.

They've done this kind of thing on a few other ER episodes & frankly, I HATE it!!! I find it so confusing to switch back & forth... I watched it, but I kept thinking to myself, I hope they don't do this kind of show again!!!

I was another one that was confused last night also. But I thought the show was good. I think next week's should be very interesting as to how they end the season.....I don't think they will go back and forth between Africa and Chicago. I think it will be just Carter and Luca in Africa. But we'll see!!!

I really wish they'd stop trying to be "groundbreaking" (like with the backwards, a la "Memento" episode) and last night's episode. It's annoying more than anything else.

And I really hope that next week's episode is not solely devoted to Carter and Luka, as it looks like it might. Those types of episodes, IMO, are not meant for season finales.

ltldeb,

I'm curious about Corday and Romano too! I think maybe they'll get closer. I'd bet when they end the show they get married???

I really enjoy Romano's character. He's such a jerk, that I really love the scenes where he turns soft.

The Corday/Romano thing could possibly kick in, but didn't she several seasons ago go after him for sexual harassment or something? I could be confusing the characters though.

Maybe this will mello him a bit, but then he wouldn't be as fun to watch! Unless they both are deciding to leave the series, it would be a fitting send off for them to go as a couple.

actually it was Maggie, the med student, who accused him of harassment. Corday was also harassed by him. Weaver asked Corday to testify about it and support Maggie. at first Corday agreed, but then changed her mind, and shortly thereafter Romano gave her a promotiion.

I like the episodes when they try to be innovative and different. but I do agree, it can be hard to follow -- it's not casual t.v. viewing, but requires real concentration.

I don't mind most of their creative episodes but this one seemed a bit too choppy with the cutting back and forth. It had a lot more ER medical scenes and I think that is one reason it made it more difficult. Earlier in the series we were used to most of the action happening in the ER, but as the years have gone on we've become more used to seeing their personal lives more. The high pace and the choppiness back and forth made this one difficult to follow and even when I was following it-- I found it difficult to enjoy.

I miss Mark Green:(
I miss George Clooney:cool:

You have to admit that this show changed medical shows forever!!!!!!!!

I didn't care for how this episode either. It took me a long time to figure out that Pratt was picking up Carter's patients from earlier in the day. It did seem choppy.

I would have like to have seen more of a build up to Romano loosing his arm. More anger out of him, rather than acceptance. That just didn't seem to fit his personality. I can't see him in a romantic relationship with Corday or anyone else.

I hope the finale next week isn't a let down.

Thanks everyone for explaining last night's episode. It makes sense now. The only storyline that didn't confuse me was Romano's.
I agree with you cgcw that they should have made Romano a little angier about losing his arm, but the scene of him making Corday write "not this arm idiot" was hilarious. I can actually see a Romano/Corday pairing, I think it would be interesting.
Like others have said, I hope the finale is not just Luka and Carter in Africa, I think that would be quite a let down.

They were going back and forth between night and day. I thought it was hard to follow, and wished I had taped it, so I could have made better sense out of it. I wish they wouldn't do episodes like that. If they want to keep their audience, they need to think about making the shows a bit easier to follow!

It was ER's 200th episode, the writers and producers wanted to do something really innovative. The hardest part to follow was the young gang member, he was the brother of the young man from last week who left the ER to avenge the attack on his mother?

But I thought it was a good show. Really keeps your adrenaline level up!

Deb, you are right, this was the kid brother of the gang member from last week... I thought this was a very interesting twist, as some people last week didn't like the ending & how you never really found out with the guy "Curtis"... you find out in last night's episode that indeed he was one of the gang members that died enroute.....
