Not only was last night's episode of ER the most depressing piece of so called entertainment I have ever seen, the scene between Luka and Carter where they discuss how the U.S. fights wars, made my blood boil:mad: When Luka was saying to Carter how the U.S. fights their wars in the air and then goes back to the air carrier made me mad enough, but at least Carter responded by saying the U.S. had lost soldiers in Iraq, but then Luka said, yeah, but your women are not raped, where Carter then said...NOTHING!!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe thousands of American women are raped every year. Has something changed? Has the U.S. stopped rapes? I could not believe my ears. I could not understand why the ER writers would have you think that rape is not a problem here. Maybe I'm making too much of this, but it just made my blood boil and I just had to vent. Thank you for your patience.

Your reading way to much into it, his character come from a war torn area, and he DID lose his wife and children so I think he deserves the right to be a little po'ed about situation of war.

On the rape thing, he said women was Raped while their husbands were out to war while no one was there to protect them.. most of the women in the us raped are not because their husbands are at war, most can and are raped anywheres.. they were pointing out that women over seas are raped while by theirselves in their own homes with no one to protect them..

They don't have security systems or watch dogs or deadbolts to keep them safe in their own homes over there.\

Carter comes from a rich family and is just now experiencing life with war in other countries first hand, it was part of a growing experience for his character

I think the character of Luka was trying to emphasize the differences in warfare, especially since his character went thru war and devestation in his home country. With modern technology war is fought differently now than in the past. The fighting depicted last night was low tech...primitive, raw and gritty...no night vision goggles, helicopters, jets, etc. As far as the rape is concern, he was referrring to the raping of women in conjunction with the fighting/war. Rape is unacceptable no matter who, when or where.

I did not watch ER... infact, I stopped watching ER a few seasons ago.... It's always a depressing show and I got sick of feeling depressed after every show and then going to bed. No thanks!

you also have to keep in mind that rape was a much-used weapon in the war in Bosnia, not just for personal humiliation, but also for purposes of genocide. culturally in that part of the world a woman who has been raped is no longer considered fit for marriage or childbearing. rape all of the women of the ethnic group you are fighting and you essentially condemn that group to death. that was one of the things Luka was referring to.

also keep in mind that we as Americans don't live in a war zone. all of our wars, with the exceptioin of a few battles such as Pearl Harbor, in the 20th and 21st centuries have been fought on foreign ground. the last time we had to rebuild our infrastructure to repair war damage was during Reconstruction after the Civil War.
