$eptember No Buy-All Are Welcome!

OK, I am new at this...BUT I'm going to give it a try! And TRY HARD I WILL, so we can afford Disney in the winter (haven't decided when yet!!!)

Groceries - $200 for this month...I'm cutting it down from $400 a month, since we have a HUGE stockpile
Gas- $60
Eating out/ Entertainment- $30 (we will be using several gift certificates and gift cards for the next two or three months!!! I got a BUNCH of the radio auction certificates in July and they were taken out of our "cash spent" in July...we'll use those to eat out...and I have 3 gift cards from doing surveys!)
Emergency money- $50 (hopefully we won't need to use it this month!!! then, I'll be down another $50 and we'll be doing well!)

Total- $340
8/17 days with no money spent so far!
Goal of 17 No buy Days (which won't be too difficult, just need to NOT SPEND AS MUCH when I do have my spending days!!! That's the difficult part for me!)

2nd- $0
3rd- $11.50 (Perkins breakfast for hubby and I) running total of $16
4th- $0

I thought this would be a good month to start.

9/1 $0
9/2 $0
9/3 Eye dr (I know I'll spend but it's a necessity) **Ended up spending only $20 for exam, no new contacts until I see a specialist...:( which will be more money in the long run!
9/4 $0 (no plans, except hopefully relaxing by the pool)
9/5 $0 Same as above
9/6 Food shopping for the week (we all bring lunch to work and school,
budget is 100-110 per week), 25 for gas** (110.24 spent, right on target)

I think I should skip this month because I got a chunk of back child support I was owed and am spending money on things I wouldn't normally (home repair, doubling payments to the dentist, etc...so, good news/bad news at this point...Will try for October)

My goals for this month: 12 no-buy days this month. I know I will have to get gas more often, because I'll be driving the kids to and from school every day (44 miles total), after homeschooling them for 2 years.

9/1 $0
9/2 $16 Walmart

1 of 12 no buy days so far.

I'm in. Been lurking and have joined the concept last month. I am going to a city-wide garage sale this weekend though so I will be spending then!

My plan - every Wed a spend day - ie. fill up gas, groceries, etc. Try to make it in my pantry, freezer, gas tank until then. Friday night is football night here in Texas (high school football is breathing to Texans) so I will spend a little on tickets but no food out and no gas. We walk across the streets to the games. :cheer2:

All within budget and no stealing from next paycheck budget!!!!

Overall - NO SPEND - Mon, Tues, Thurs and most Fri, Sat and Sun

Days total - 10 since I am starting 9/7. If accomplished then $100 in Disney Fund from budget savings - Yay! :woohoo:

September 1- $0 :yay: I always do well on the months I start with a $0 day, here's hoping!
September 2-$0 :yay: I had a late-day frustration break down with the kids (trying to get the house ready for company) and really needed a break. Turned out DH needed one too (rough day at work) so we decided to meet for a half hour refresher. We were able to not ruin a $0 day though cause I had a Gift Card from Christmas for Dunkin Doughnuts. We never go there so we decided to finally use that. It was nice to spend a little adult time and get away from the house for a bit. Also went to Staples for a few things but used the free backpack G/C for that, and still have $35 left on it.
There wn't be any $0 days for the next few. Grandma and grandpa are coming to town, we are planning Niagara Falls, a ball game and school shopping for the girls. Here's hoping for one mid-next week. :sad2:

2/15 No Buy Days
************************
Happy About Record Since Joining No Buy-

July- 6 Days (only in town and only recorded half the month, probably had about 7-8 no buys while away)
August-15 Days
Longest Streak-4 Days in a Row!

Goal: 15 no spend days

Sept 1: $64.30 (Eating Out - $36.23, Target - $28.07)
Sept 2: $220 (Groceries - $157, Gas - $38, Disney Store - $25)

Ummm not doing so well today! At least those groceries should last ALL month.

It's just two of us and I so want to join in. I've had a goal for a while now of spending only on Fridays. It had helped me do much to avoid impulse spending. If all the milk gets used-too bad- no more until Friday (I buy
plenty) so it teaches us not to waste.

Wow, that is amazing! Good for you and welcome to you and everyone new.
I have to ask, does that mean you don't go places or do things either or is that just buying things? I can't really do the once a week grocery thing. 5 people, not that big of a fridge, I am shopping for groceries more then I'd like to. But we also seem to spend on doing things, even if they are cheap like movies, this weekend spending a day at Niagara Falls, putt-putt.

So today we went and grocery shopped for the weekend but that comes out of vacation budget. We did however go out for dinner. Tomorrow we will get gas.

I am jumping on the bandwagon a little late but I am here. I am going to track groceries, household stuff and eating out. I am going to keep track of gas here as well because I got a new job with a crazy commute and I need to be able to change my gas budget to reflect that. So for the month my goal is 12 no buy days, 200 for groceries, 100 for household and 50 for eating out. (IDK how realistic that is with this crazy schedule but I will attempt it)

9/1- $14.96 for lunch during our training for work. $40 for DD cheer shoes.
9/2- $48.26 for gas. $40 plus $2.50 ATM fee because one of my cheerleaders couldn't afford her cheer shoes and I didn't want her to be the only one without them :guilty:

So...
0/200 groceries
40/100 household
14.96/50 eating out

I count the other shoes as a gift which comes out of a separate budget category.

Well good luck everyone and happy no buy!

MickeyMomofThree: It isn't always possible but just having a goal of only shopping on Friday keeps me from running to the store for every little thing I think of or picking up fast food, moolattes, etc. It saves on gas too. I know it is harder for ones who work. Yes, we go to church and to an occasional movie -matinee only.
We try to save enough to take at least two trips a year. Disney of course and a cruise usually.

I really want to have 20 no spend days in Sept. Our Disney trip starts the 26th-myw package all pre-paid with free dining but there will be extras I'm sure. The week of Disney will be a no grocery buying week so that will help.

Wow, that is great. (We only do first shows for $5 once in a while or $1 movies too!) I don't work but I do have to get to the store more for the kids. We don't have a big enough fridge to buy more milk then a gallon at a time, with 5 of us it often doesn't last more then 2 days. Anyway, welcome to the thread.
