Epipens and airport security

Dd is allergic to many foods (12 and counting!) and needs to have her epipen on her at all times. I've gotten conflicting information about what kind of documentation she needs to have it pass through airport security. Has anyone had to bring an epi over the border?

I used to work in airport security and epipens are allowed. If you have any concerns I would go to http://www.catsa-acsta.ca/english/travel_voyage/list.shtml#medical and print the list out and bring it with you.

I saw epipens all the time. But you may get a screener who is new or has an attitude problem, so I would print out the list just in case. If you have a problem, ask to speak to their boss.

My son has had an Epipen all his life and has them on the plane with him at all times. It has never been an issue (yet) at any airport security.

DH has one he carries with him and has never had a problem at the airport. He always makes sure that the pharmacy label is on it though.

Adding us to the list too - my ds' has had his epi his entire short 7 yrs. We've taken it on the plane with us several times with no issues. One of his epi's doesn't have a label on it either b/c he carries it in an epi belt around his waist - I carry the other one (in the tube with a label) along with the box of benadryl.

A suggestion - our allergist has a letter that she fills in his name that basically states ds' has life threatening allergies to nuts and must have his epi on him at all times and we take that with us when we are flying *just in case* Have never been asked to see it though.

I have flown for the last 10 years with 3 epipens! for my food allergies. I carry in my purse in their original tubes with the pharmacy labels along with the Shopper's Drug Mart personal medication print out that lists all my medication. All three pens go in the same ziplock bag as the rest of my medication so I can place it in a separate bin at screening. I have only been questioned once ( very politely by a screener ) and simply showed them my medicalert bracelet and was instantly waved through. In my case, I think it was the number, I carried not the fact that they were an injectable medication. With a lot of caution and a little planning, all of us with allergies can travel safely. I took mine in my carry-on in February. I just made sure labels were attached. No one said a thing. Just so you know if by some chance you were on a flight and did not have it and required it most if not all airlines do have epi pens in case of emergency.

Thanks for all of your reassuring words! I'll make sure that dd's epipen is in the tube with the prescription label on it.
Timon, I will definitely print off the list that you linked and bring it with us. (Who, me, paranoid? )
