Epically dumb DDP question

My question, I suppose, comes mostly out of wishful thinking that goes against most of what I've read about the DDP. The DDP is always part of a package that includes tickets and hotel reservations, correct? In other words, my family has non-expiring tickets from a previous trip and hotel reservations already made so we would not be able to add the DDP onto our trip without getting new tickets and hotel reservations, correct? From what I've read, this is true but there are so many pieces of this plan that it doesn't take much to confuse me with all the details!

The dining plan is available only with a room/tickets package at a WDW resort. The only exceptions are WDW annual passholders, who may book a room/dining package without tickets, and DVC members, who are exempt from the ticket purchase requirement when booking a reservation using DVC points and adding the dining plan through DVC Member Services.

The good news is that it doesn't matter what type of ticket you buy, only that you buy tickets. You may purchase as little as a one-day base ticket for everyone on your reservation, so you could buy the one-day tickets and then either keep them to use on another trip (they never expire), use them and save a day on your non-expiring tickets for another trip, or use them toward a ticket upgrade or toward the purchase of future tickets at WDW.

If you have a room only reservation, you must convert it to a room/tickets package reservation in order to add the dining plan.

You also may want to try for the 7 nights for 4 package. If you are staying for 7 days (a day less or more) this package will probably be your best bet, just add one day base tickets, and the dining plan if you want it, and you are set. I know it is listed as these dates are blacked out on the ads, but that does not seem to be the case. We are at 90 days now.
