Epic Mickey - Worth the Hype

I received it Friday, actually I wasn't expecting it until next month

I'm thinking about buying this game but I'm going to await awhile until more user reviews come out or if someone I know has it and is enjoying it.

OP here - the main reason I was wondering is because Best Buy has a sale this week - if you buy Epic Mickey and the new Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 on Blu-Ray you get $10 off of Fantasia! I'm pretty sure that can be combined with the $10 Disney Rewards coupon for a good deal. I'm still on the fence even after reading these replies.

I just watched this review from G4's Adam Sessler and it made me even more excited about Epic Mickey. He usually really dislikes licensed games so the fact that he likes it is a good sign.

DANG IT. I thought it came out tomorrow!!

I must get it.. :thumbsup2

I LOVE Kingdom Hearts so I am very excited for this.

I love KH too! Sora is my favorite by far :)

also - Harry Potter/Narnia freak and I love T Swift as well :goodvibes

It is on my DS (15)'s Christmas list, his grandpa is getting it for him. I was glad he didn't ask for a killing type game. :thumbsup2
That is always a plus
Am I the only one worried that Epic Mickey will be one of those games that after you play it once, you won't care about playing it again?
That's always my fear with video games..
No that is my biggest concern as well

My DH is getting Epic Mickey for me for Xmas! I cannot wait to check this game out!!!

I am getting this for my DH for Christmas. I have heard great things about it. I am excited to watch him play it, it is not exactly my type of game.

My copy arrived yesterday - I played for about 3 hours.

It is kinda plot driven but at least it automatically saves after each section so you don't have to find a place to save at like you did in Kingdom Hearts.

It is darker themed and a bit challenging but that could be because I haven't played the Wii in over a year so I'm out of practice.

I bought the game and paintbrush to go along with it today. My ds6 is a little young for it (which I knew he would probably be) so I started playing it to show him what to do. I also was excited about playing it because I loved the Kingdom Hearts games and thought it may be similar. I got to play for about 20 minutes or so before the game started to cause me to have MAJOR motion sickness. I got a huge headache and at one point threw the controller to my ds15 and ran from the room because I thought I was going to be sick. This has happened to me before while trying to watch my ds play the Call of Duty type games so while I wasn't exactly surprised that this happened, I am dissappointed :(. I read up on motion sickness from video games and I guess it is pretty common, some have advised taking ginger pills which I may try. Back to the game itself, my ds15 is still playing it, he seems to be enjoying it alot (he is a big gamer) so that says something. At this point I can only look at the screen for small moments of time before feeling nauseous again:headache:

I've played for a couple of hours so far and I love the game. It's actually more challenging than I expected. I've gotten stuck a couple of times already and it's taken me quite a while to figure out how to get to where I'm trying to go. I think it would be very difficult to collect everything, and depending on the choices you make it might not be possible at all. I know I've missed quite a few things so far and now that I have a better feel for the game I might start over so I can get some of the stuff I missed. The music is really good - some of it is typical Disney songs but they are changed slightly and they sound really creepy. It's definitely darker than most people would expect a Mickey game to be. I still think kids will enjoy it but I also think teens and adults will like it more than the typical Disney game. There is quite a bit of reading involved and between that and some of the more challenging parts of the game, I don't think it's a good game for small kids.

Question for those that have it - Do you need to buy the paintbrush to go with it or can you just use a regular controller?

My DH was looking at this game and was really interested in it. Then I saw that it also has a paintbrush and so this was his first question.

No, you don't need it. It's a cute accessory, but it doesn't do anything different than the normal remote would do.

My DD (20) has been following this game for the last 18 months or so...but she loves the history involving Oswald. She is a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, basically likes the darker side of Disney ;). DD was lucky to access some of the more technical aspects/limits of this game thru people at school, and she thinks it is pretty cool. Granted it does not have the graphics that XBOX or PS3 have, the Wii just cannot compete that way but the theme and story of the game are right up her alley. I was watching a boy play it at the Wii kiosk at the mall and it does have it's slow moments, but I liked it, matter of fact I think it will appeal to all age groups which is nice. The paintbrush is fun but no way required. That said I did get it for DD, but I would have bought it even if it was a paperweight becasue it looks so cool!

I think the Paintbrush nunchuk is so adorable!!

I'm hoping to get a chance to play Epic Mickey here soon.. the lack of Wii is a problem though.
