Epic Mickey for a 6 year old?

I can't seem to find a good review for younger kids. I think my son would like it and it's rated "E" but for some cartoon violence. Keeping in mind that the "Up" game for the Wii that he plays is rated 10+ (which I will never understand why a kid's movie game is rated for over 10) do you think this game is appropriate if you've played it?

Subscribing because I'm interested to know as well. DS is almost 7 and DH is getting it from my parents form Christmas, so I'm wondering if it is appropriate for DS to play with us or will have to be an after bedtime game.

I am getting it for Christmas, but both my 5yo ds and 9yo dd are very interested in it. While I haven't played it yet, I'm not concerned about either child playing the game...and I'm pretty hyper about what they play/watch.

I just got it last week and i was amazed at the graphics. My 5 yo was having hard time controlling and going thru the maze ( didn't bother to read the instructions), but he enjoyed watching the story clip in the beginning. But I think it's definitely for older kids, the beginning cartoon clip was pretty violent with the chain saw. So just beware when you let your younger kids watch the beginning clip. My wife and I was like.. why would they put that in there.

This game, in my opinion, is appropriate for children of all ages. I let my 3 year old watch us play. The only thing so far that I've seen that could be objectionable is the older movies (like Steamboat Willie) are not altered to modern sensitivities. For example, there is a cleaver that goes up & down on a log that is clearly meant to kill cows in one of the scenes. Things that in 1930 everyone would have been completely ok with. I, personally, don't mind such things. We eat cow in our house.

A better question is do I think a younger child would be capable of playing this game? No, I don't. My ten year old daughter gets frustrated. And my younger kids don't even bother trying. It's a challenging game. So unless you or your dh are planning on playing it with him or he is particularly good at Mario Galaxy. Those are the skills he will need. Wii Mario skills. Only even a little better because the camera view makes some of the jumps HARD!

This game is WAY too hard for a young child.

Heck, it's hard for ME, and I've been playing video games since the days of the Commodore 64....

My kids like to watch me play (they are 6.5 and 4.5 year old boys). They are not even CLOSE to the point where they would be able to play this game. It's very complex, lots of things to keep straight (quests), lots of reading, etc. The gameplay is frustrating due to undersensitive controls and a horrible camera.

It's a cool game...for teens and adults.

Great, so it sounds like it will turn out to be a DS and dad game, since I stink at all of the Mario stuff and DS is a natural...I usually end up frustrated that he leaves the screen before I'm ready and eventually can't take it anymore so I stop playing - LOL!

There was a Nintendo set up at our mall that I went to yesterday and I spoke to two different Nintendo employees about Epic Mickey as well as a few other games.

My 5yo ds is really good at Super Mario Brothers and the Lego games (Batman, Star Wars, & Indiana Jones) and I asked them, based on that... if ds would be okay playing Epic Mickey and both said he shouldn't have a problem.

They said kids that excel at Super Mario Brothers and Galaxy 2 will be able to play Epic Mickey just fine.

DS6 was playing it at Best Buy the other night and DH said he was doing just fine. The controller there was pretty messed up too so I guess with a good controller DS would do better. But he's pretty skilled at figure out games and plays all the Lego games as well as Mario.

Thanks for the input! We've decided to go ahead a get it...Amazon had it for $39 with free shipping. Now if I could just find the Wii paintbrush controller! They are priced through the roof!!

I agree with the others; the content is not bad IMO but the game is difficult to play.

I'm having a hard time keeping track of all my quests and having to check my list pretty often just so I don't miss one.

I don't know where you are looking that has the paintbrush nunchuk for an expensive price. I went to Target and got it for $20 which is what it should be considering the regular nunchuks are $20 as well.

It is a difficult game for younger kids. I think those who are 8+ will probably be able to play it better than the really young kids. I never play the wii because I'm more of a hardcore gamer myself and play games on my PS3, but it didn't take any time at all for me to figure everything out. I think your kid will do fine after playing it for a while and getting used to the controls.

Honestly, the content is not that bad. It can be a bit scary for kids. It isn't supposed to be sunshine and rainbows. It's like American McGee's Alice. Very dark and not really for kids, though Epic Mickey is geared toward kids. I wish Warren made it more dark though. I love the mysteriousness and darkness of the game that I crave more of it. I hope he makes a more adult version of it like Alice. That would be amazing.

Also, it is not meant to be a one-time game. You have to play it at least two or three times to get everything and there are 4 (I believe that is correct) different endings depending on your choices.

I think you will enjoy the game a lot. It can get frustrating with the camera being a little wonky, but it is very fun. I am only my second playthrough, but I am having so much fun with it. If you have any questions about the game, feel free to ask me!

I don't know about the other poster but I do know the stores around me were sold out at first and when I priced them out on Amazon they were selling them for $79 I checked awhile later and they had gone down but were still around $39.

I didn't know what retail was suppose to be so I just thought people were nuts to pay that much for a nunchuk that looked like a paint brush. My plain nunchuk would work just fine as far as I was concerned. It wasn't until the stores around here actually got them in stock that I realized they should only be $19.99.

My youngest is 5 yrs. old and is is farther along in the game than I am. His reading skills aren't such that he can read all of the cut scenes and the scenes where they tell you what your mission so I read those to him but he has absolutely no trouble working that game. I did show him how to do a few things and how best to manipulate the camera (my one real peeve with this game) but he does just fine with it overall.

That is insane! Granted the paintbrush nunchuk is really cute but egad that is a bit high. Does the blue change to green when Mickey uses the thinner?

My 10yo got scared of the black monster and wouldn't do it anymore. My 8yo wouldn't be able to do it, 'cause he has issues with reading and following instructions (learning disability). I got severely frustrated because it wouldn't do what it was telling me to do.

All in all, we're *very* glad we rented it for $7 instead of buying it. We returned it with no qualms.
