Epic Mickey 2 for Xbox 360

I'm stuck on Disney Gulch because I don't know how to throw a guardian. I am pushing the R button in the back and the thumb controller but it's not working. How do i throw a guardian with a xbox 360

I believe you need to be in range in order for the Guardian to either paint or thin your target, depending if the surrounding area has been painted or thinned. I just obtained the Perfectionist achievement so let me know if you have any other questions!
