Epcot WS restaurant suggestions?

Our next trip to the World is still far away (July 2010), but with the implementation of the 180-day ADR window once again, I will be making our ADRs in the middle of January. I am looking into restaurants now, as I am a teacher and off for a couple of more weeks, then will be very busy with work and my kids in school as well. The plan is to choose tentative restaurants now, and DH and I will sit down some time over Christmas break to finalize everything, a couple of weeks before I make our ADRs.

OK, so here's the situation. It will be me, DH, and 2 boys who will be 3 and 5 when we go. We will have 3 days at Epcot, and we do not have park hoppers. The first day at Epcot, my parents, sister and nieces will be with us. I am a little torn with the TS restaurants in Epcot. I have looked at the menus, and I know we definitely do not want to do Coral Reef (not much on the dinner menu is appealing to us). We definitely want to do one dinner at Biergarten, and one dinner at Chefs de France. We need to choose a third TS meal at Epcot.

My sister, nieces and parents are definitely going to Akershus for lunch. I looked at the menu and it looks OK. It also looks like a great deal on the basic DDP, which we will most likely have. I am not sure though, since this is a princess meal and we have boys, and we will already be going to dinner with all of them at the castle on our MK day together. My sister knows that we prefer TS dinners and not lunches, and that we would probably not be dining together at Epcot. Everyone is fine with this if it happens this way, including us. We are OK if we do not spend every waking moment together, we will still all have fun together at WDW! Any opinions on Akershus lunch with boys, and the food there?

If we do decide to do a TS dinner instead of the Akershus lunch (more likely), I am a little torn. DH is not picky, but he does love the WS restaurants and to try different varieties of foods. I have looked at Tutto Italia, which looks fantastic, but I am a bit skeptical because we are really picky about Italian food (we have some of the best Italian restaurants here in NYC and that is what we are used to, and we are each part Italian!). We DO NOT eat at places like Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill, so if Tutto Italia is anything like those, we want no part of it. I am also unsure about Le Cellier. Again, when we go out for a good steak, we expect it to be a good steak. I have seen mixed reviews about Le Cellier. I know it is a good deal on the DDP, but I want it to be good quality! DH and I do enjoy going to Outback, with the expectation that it is Outback, not Peter Luger! But, I think if Le Cellier is comparable to Outback, we would be disappointed. I know we don't want to go to the restaurant in China for sure. Teppan-Edo in Japan is a possibility, as my boys love the hibachi-style dining, and so do we. Any other suggestions?

Then there is always the option of NOT going to WS for dinner one night, and instead going to the Garden Grill for the character meal for the boys. How is the food there? Is Mickey still there?

For CS lunches, we plan to go to Tangierine Cafe one day again (we LOVED it there), and to the Cantina in Mexico one day. The third one is undecided. We are thinking of Yakitori House but I am not sure if my kids would like the kids' meal option there. Any other CS suggestions in the WS? How is the one in Norway? Again, we will definitely not go to the CS in China.

Thanks in advance for any advice! We would like to make the most of dining in Epcot, as this is our favorite place to eat at WDW!!

Hi, My husband and I also love the World Showcase restaurants. I am Italian and live in CT where we have excellent Italian food also.

I would recommend Tutto (Italy) for a great dinner. Just to let you know it is Northern Italian so the food is prepared a little different. We have also been to the Rose and Crown Restaurant (England) and we loved it. You have to of course like the food on the menu.

I am glad to see you are going to Biergarten that is our favorite and do it every time.

I have not tried Yakitori in (Japan.) or Norway.

We went to the Garden Grill on our last trip and I was a little disappointed. They only have Chip and Dale there for Characters. The food was okay. Of course we could have just caught a bad day.

Hope this helped. We are going from Sept.9-14 and can't wait.

Happy planning.:)

Sounds like Tutto Italia will most likely be our choice! I am also going to ask a colleague of mine who was at WDW this summer and had an ADR at Tutto Italia. She knows my taste, and I trust her judgment. Northern Italian food is fine with us!

I don't think we will be going to Garden Grill, especially if the only characters are Chip and Dale. We like them but the boys are more into Mickey, and without him there we would definitely not go.

Any other suggestions?

Our meal at Tutto Italia was among the best of our last trip. The food, service and atmosphere were all wonderful. We also love Japan, Morocco and Mexico.

We're heading back in October and always have a few favourites -

Teppan Edo - if you like hibachi style restaurants this is great. Food is very good.

Biergarten - I see you're already going so no need to sell you on that one!

Le Cellier - it is worth it. had the filet mignon last time I was there and it was great. Plus they serve Unibroue beer!

Rose & Crown - nothing fancy but get a late-in-the-evening ADR and see if you can get a patio table - it's the perfect place to view the fireworks.

Le Cellier
Chefs De France
I also hear a lot of good reviews about Tutto Italia but if your not on the dining plan it can get expensive.

When we were there we saw farmer Mickey and Pluto, as well as Chip N Dale. We found as a character experience they were great here. Plenty of time, and came around more then once. All of them were great

Here is our line up for the last week in October and you can see 5 of 7 are at EPCOT. We also really like Tippen Edo but do not have enough days and we do have hopper passes to make this work. Some day I have to talk DW into the Biergarten.

10/25 San Angle-I like the atmosphere, dark by candlelight

10/26 Le Cellier-great atmosphere and great steaks also pretzel breadsticks great

10/27 Chefs De France- Like the shrimp and scallops

10/28 O’hanna-great atmosphere and like a big party

10/29 Hoop De Doo -love the show and ribs and especially all the beer you can drink

10/30 Coral Reef-great atmosphere and great NY strip steak

10/31 Rose and Crown-try for a 7:30 seating to view Illuminations around desert time, menu is limited

LeCellier is our favorite at EPCOT!!!! The mushroom filet, cheddar cheese soup and pretzel bread are the best :thumbsup2
