We are planning our July trip now, trying to figure out where to go and what to do. We have decided that on this trip we wanted to go to our first Welcome Home Wednesday. We will be staying at BLT and taking the monorail to Epcot in the morning. We would like to walk to Boardwalk for the Welcome Home Wed. I am clueless about that area of Disney. Can someone help me out about how to do this? Where do you leave Epcot from? How long a walk is it? Is there a better way to get to Boardwalk from Epcot? Is this a bad idea? Any info would be extremely helpful!

VERY easy to do from Epcot. Go to France cross over the bridge take a quick left to the gateway. You can take a boat from there or just walk right over. We call it our private entrance from either the BCV or BWV.

Exiting Epcot out of the International Gateway (back entrance) is the only way to get to the Boardwalk from Epcot. There is no bus service from Epcot to the Epcot area resorts. If there is not a boat waiting at the dock, walk if you can as that will be quicker than waiting for the next boat.

If you take the monorail to EPCOT, you will walk into the park and walk thru World Showcase, I'd start on the Canadian Side (which is to the right). You walk directly to the back right corner of the park...
Exit Epcot...
go acrossed the bridge and you will see the Boardwalk to the left.

I would take the bus from Cont. to DHS and walk to the BWV, well, I would take the boat to BWV, but you said you wanted to walk!

I agree unless you just want to walk through Epcot, I would go to the Studios and walk or take the boat.

Wait.....July, I would definitely take the bus to the Studios and ride the air conditioned boat to the Boardwalk.

We were planning on taking the monorail to Epcot in the morning. Spending the day at Epcot. Getting over to Boardwalk, I was guessing walking would be the best way, and going to Welcome Home Wed. After that we would probably go back to the park. So my main question is what is the best way to and from Boardwalk if you are spending the day at Epcot?

Since you will be at Epcot, just walk to the international gateway,( it's between Great Britain and France, but nearer to Great Britain) and you can see the Friendship boat dock. Maybe you can see the Boardwalk area if you look under the bridge. The boat's first stop is BW, so after you've walked all morning in Epcot, why don't you just get on the boat, get off at BW and walk to the right to the Atlantic Dance Hall.

For return to BLT, I would either walk or take the boat to DHS, and then a bus to BLT.

Thank you all for your help! I like the idea of a boat ride, but walking will work too. At least that gives us a few options. Anyone know how long the walk is? Is it 5 min. or 15 min.?? Again I am only asking because I am clueless about that area of Disney.

It is not far and you sound like good walkers, so my guess would be between 5-10 minutes for you to walk to the Atlantic Dance Hall from the international gateway entrance.

Plan on a 15 minute walk from the International Gateway. The Atlantic Dance is on the far side of Boardwalk. The boat is only quicker if it is there or if you see it coming.
Afterwards, you can catch a bus from Boardwalk to MK, AK, or catch a boat back to Epcot or DHS.
One thing we like to do is exit IG after Illuminations walk to Boardwalk and watch the entertainment then catch a bus back to MK. We then walk back to BLT from MK. It beats the mad rush to the monorail!

Great picture CarolMN! :thumbsup2

Don't forget that Welcome Home Wednesdays have been moved to 2:00 PM (instead of 4:00 PM). It was posted in all of the elevators when we were there earlier this month. Also they are remodeling the Atlantic Dance Hall and there aren't any Welcome Home Wednesday scheduled through June 21st, so it should be back this Wednesday.

Thanks for the tip about the time change -- good to know. It's a good idea to get there ahead of time, sometimes it's crowded (maybe the time change will help with that). OP: follow the pink line on the map, just past the boat dock, then follow the teal line (past the open example BWV unit -- if you're there early, check that out), until you get almost to the orange line, to that big square building. It would be lots more than 5-10 minutes for me (more like 20-25), esp. if you haven't done it before and want to see what's along the Boardwalk -- I'd say take the boat if it's at the dock, or close to it, and then do the walk back, if the event is at 2.

If you walk from Future World to World Showcase, look for the International Gateway as you get past UK/England, and turn right (it's not the most obvious place at WDW). (Don't cross the bridge to France if walking). It will actually be quite a hike from the front entrance to Epcot.

It is put on by the DVD marketing department. A little game play, some refreshments, maybe a baseball cap hand out.

To the OP, I would take some time to visit BCV, BC, YC, BWV, BWI, maybe plan lunch or dinner in the area.

You guys are all awesome! The map is great, thanks! I really appreciate the information.

Thanks for the info - we will be at BCV in October so this
event will be a short walk for us !
