Hi,
I planned to go to Epcot Sun., Sept.11 I've made my ADRs. :mickeybar
My question is will that be a bad day to go :confused3 since it is part of the Happiest Pin Celebration Event? Thanks, Angie

I have never been to a pin event, so I can't tell for sure ... but when we have been most of the pin trading crowds are in The World Showcase, between Innoventions West and The Land /The Living Sea areas.

It will probably be a little more crowded, but September is a good time to go so I think you will still be ok.....

Anyone else have first hand info???

I am curious to know if Disney has any kind of memorial on September 11?

I must admit, when I saw this thread, that is what I thought it was going to be about.

Not sure about events, but I will be hosting a meetup at the Flag Retreat ceremony at the MK that day to pay our respects if anyoen wants to join us.

I LOVE the flag retreat at the MK! We make sure and see that at least once each visit (I cry every time). If we were going to be there that day, we would meet you for sure!

I was at Epcot on September 11, 2004. Before the park opened, the CMs running the opening ceremony did include a moment of silence, which was honored by most of the small crowd that was there (this was when the parks were mostly empty due to the hurricane Ivan scare). Most, but not the two clods standing behind me, that is. :-(

I would be honored to attend, but I am always at the memorial here in NY, to honor the people we miss so much. I don't think I would feel right enjoying myself on the anniversary just yet.

Well, I hope it helps to know that you all will still be in our thoughts as we honor you here on that day.

It's nice to know that the people we lost are still remembered by others... and nice as well to know that the ones they left behind are still in people's thoughts as well!

My two best friends and I will be at Disney World on September 11, but I am not sure what park we will be at that day. If it works out, I know that we would all love to be at the Flag retreat with all of you.

I was in Disneyland the week of September 11, 2001. On Friday, they had an observance (I think along with the rest of the country). They had everything come to a halt - all rides, music, castmembers, etc. Everyone was out on the streets (I was in California Adventure at the time). They had someone sing God Bless America over the speaker system, and then a moment of silence for about a minute or so. Then everything started up again. It was kind of a neat coming together, but also kind of eerie.

I was at MK on Sept 11, 2002 (one year later) They did the moment of silence and I believe President Bush made a speech they played through out the park. All the cast members also had a special pin they wore for that day only. It was very nice but eerie hearing the parks go silent for a few minutes.
That afternoon my boyfriend and I were the grand marshalls in the parade because we were from Washington D.C. :earsboy:
It was a very nice tribute on a sad day remembering the people we lost at the Pentagon back home. :guilty:

As for the Pin event in September, we have been to that also and it did not effect the Epcot crowds that day very much. The pin events are in world showcase in a seperate building behind Canada. I would just suggest not trying to trade that day in the park because that is what everyone else will be doing.
As for rides that time of year is so quiet anyways you probably won't notice the pin traders. You will be enjoying Soarin and they will be standing in line for pins!!! Trust me I have done it, no time for rides when pin trading is involved ;)

Yes, they are remembered. And prayers are still said for those of us who were left behind.
