I understand the general rule of thumb is that Epcot is best avoided on weekends during festivals. I also think that applies more to Food and Wine than the other festival seasons, but I could be wrong about that.

We're set to arrive for our vacation on Mother's Day, May 12, 2019 (Sunday), which will be during the Flower & Garden Festival, and I was trying to pick a park to go to on our arrival afternoon/evening. Epcot is currently looking like one of the better options based on how the rest of our trip is shaping up, BUT that would be a weekend night <gasp>. Is this something you would avoid or not? We would probably just ride a few rides and maybe take a quick look at World Showcase, spending maybe a total of 4 hours or less in the park. We would hit it at least one other time later in our trip for a more complete day of touring. WWYD?

I think you'll be fine. I agree that Food & Wine should be avoided if you can on the weekends, but that probably pertains more to Friday & Saturday night. We've been there on Saturday nights during F&W and it was crazy crowded. I think the only variable here is Mother's Day, that may play into the crowds.

The biggest issues we’ve encountered at Epcot on mother’s day weekend were ADR availability, and crowds to see Peter noone (Herman of Herman’s hermits).

I had to Google him! We would definitely just be eating quick service if we go that evening - possibly snacking at a couple booths if the lines aren't too terrible.

We did a Sunday late afternoon/evening at Epcot during F&W. While it was "crowded" compared to a non F&W Sunday it was absolutely fine. The kiosk lines were short for the most part with some with no wait at all. I would absolutely go back on a Sunday evening. Also, Future World is usually less crowded then WS during these events, with ride times more of the normal variety wait....
