What do you do first? I'm helping a friend plan her very first trip to DW with her family. Please help me help her to make this trip magical!!!!!

A lot depends on when you arrive at the park. If you arrive when it opens go directly to Spaceship Earth. That would be the big ball towards the middle of the park. The ride line for SE builds as the morning continues. The World Showcase does not open until 11:00AM usually. Once you have done as much as possible in Future World, go to the World Showcase at 11:00AM. I always go counter clockwise. Crowds tend to go clockwise. Start at Canada instead of Mexico. Once you have completed your tour of WS, you may want to go back through during the evening before Illuminations. Make sure you get your spot for Illuminations about 8:15PM. The best place to view Illuminations, in my opinion, is the south side of the lagoon looking towards the WS.
Enjoy your trip,
ADP :D

I allow 2 days for Epcot. I devote one entire day to Future World (with the exception of meals at the WS) and the 2nd day I devote entirely to World Showcase. When I first planned it this way, I was worried that would be too much time, but it is so much more enjoyable when you are able to move around leisurely and take it all in.

Make sure your friend understands the value of getting there early before the park opens. Hit Test Track first, since that usually has the longest lines. If Mission: Space is open, do that right away also. I would also agree with splitting Epcot into two days. Do one day when you get there early and hit the big attractions and then do an evening of shopping, dinner and Illuminations.

We also divided Epcot into two days and went counterclockwise. If riding TT is important then that should be the first place your friend goes. We found that every time we visited Epcot during our trip in June(4-5 times) all the FP's were gone very early (like 11:00) and the standby line stayed long (over 1 hour) all day. When we toured FW-we headed to the back first thing in the morning and encountered no wait for HISTA and JIYI-the only downside was we caught up to the crowd at the Land pavilion. We were able to ride SE later in the afternoon with no wait. Happy planning :D
