My son & I will be going back to WDW next year. He'll be about 15 5/6 and would LOVE to tool around Epcot on a Segway. BUT - is WDW really strict re: the age of a kid? Do you REALLY need to provide a birth certificate to prove that he's 16? He'll be 16 about 2 mos. after we're planning to go, but since he'll be in the beginning of his first year of high school ( ) I don't want to take him out.

Anyone else ever run into this?

I do believe they are strict about the age requirement. My oldest son participated in the program last week and told me about two girls doing the program who seemed a little on the young side to do it. I said that maybe they lied and he said, nope, you had to show your drivers license. They just were sort of immature, I guess.

Anyway, he had a blast. Perhaps on your next trip.:D

I don't know the specifics of Florida law on this subject, but the general rule is that you need a drivers license to operate any motorized vehicle (moped, minibike, golf cart, segway), etc. on public property. Most (99.99%) of insurance companies extend this same requirement for renting motorized vehicles on private property. I would be shocked if WDW didn't require a drivers license for each person renting a segway.

Bummer - he'll be disappointed, but guess we'll go for an extra water mouse day!!
