I'm torn between Garden Grill and San Angel Inn for our first evening at Epcot. Will be traveling with husband and 3 kids.... whom all love Mexican food, but the Garden Grill looks neat with the addition of the characters as well. Any reviews/advice? Thanks!

We haven't eaten at Garden Grill, but San Angel Inn was less than stellar. The food was mediocre and the service was the worst I've experienced at Disney. The only thing that really saved our meal there was the atmosphere and being seated right by the water. I think a character meal would be a nice first evening meal.

Off the wall reply.... all personal opinion, you should do as you choose...

BEST choice? Get on the boat. Dolphin, Swan, Yachtman's....

Dolphin - Shula's, best Steak House at WDW.
Swan - Il Mulino - best Italian Dining at WDW.
Yachtman's - second best Signature Steak at WDW.

EPCOT? I love the park. The food is nothing to write home about. It's a PARK, not a restaurant experience.

Have eaten at Garden Grille several times: have always gotten good service and good food and some of the best charector interactions... one year my (adult) Sister made Pluto cry because she kept calling him Goofy and one year Chip forced me to take a selfie with him.

I would go with garden grill, we thought the food at SAI and service was horrible.

I had dinner at San Angel last weekend, BUT...we just ordered appetizers and margaritas. The apps were all really good, with these chicken taco type things being the best things we ate. If the adults stick with apps, and the kids order off the kids menu, you might have good luck. It really is a nice place to sit :-)

Did you try the other sit down restaurant at Mexico? The food and service there were a little better last time we were there. I agree the service at San Angel is horrible, but I've really never had any problem with the food. I haven't eaten at Garden Grill but have seen some people say the food was less than great but you do get the characters.

I know most people go to SAI for the atmosphere, but I don't like it. The food is only OK, the service is hit or miss, and it is horribly crowded with tables jammed too close together. I don't find it a relaxing meal at all.

We like Garden Grill a lot. The food is family style, and we like the items on the menu. Character interaction was good, and then there's the whole revolving through the LWTL scenes.

If you're really jonesing for Mexican food, consider La Hacienda instead. The foods much better, IMO.

We did both on our trip this past August. San Angel was good. Everyone liked their food and the scenery was nice. It was really dark in there though. Garden Grill was my kids favorite! We did it the first night and it was still their favorite at the end. The character interaction was great. Chip, Dale, and Pluto were very playful and so much fun. All of us enjoyed the food, too.

Definitely agree with previous reviews of San Angel Inn. We used to like to go there for the atmosphere, even though the tables were crammed together, thought the food was decent. But on our last trip (3-4 years ago), the food went way downhill, i.e. we ordered the same entrees we had ordered the previous year and they were nowhere near as good.
