Which park would you go to on NYE and why? We are thinking of Epcot, but would love opinions on both. TIA :flower:

Every year except last at Epcot since 1998. Guess I vote for MGM. Epcot is crowded on New Year's Eve, I am not going to encourage anyone else to go there. lol.
I do vote for Epcot, the fireworks that I saw in 2004 were the best I have ever seen anywhere, and every other year has been great.
I don't know if last year's were better than 2004, I was in the hospital for NYE. Anyone else see both? Peggie

I'm also interested in hearing opinions on this. Does Epcot have special NYE fireworks or is it the regular Illuminations? Does MGM show Sorcery in the Sky as well as Fantasmic that night? We've never been there over the holidays and are considering it. Thanks in advance.
Nancy

I'm interested as well. Our first trip was short and we didn't hit MGM at all. So, I don't know which would be better because we loved Epcot. Our kids are 13,11,9. So, more opinions would be great!

MGM.
While afaik there is a 'special' version of IllumiNations, MGM has a fireworks display only twice a year - Independence Day night and New Year's Eve.

Here's what my 23 year old son had to say about this past New Year's Eve.

"If you want my take on the Disney New Year’s atmosphere at MGM: There was a stage set up in front of the BAH and a DJ/MC guy was up on stage. They were playing modern music and people were dancing and all that. Strobe lights, etc. In fact, Chandra and I wanted to stay to enjoy the festivities but it was 6:00 and that meant being there for four hours. So, if you want to enjoy New Year’s Eve parties, show up early. I bet MGM is the best place to be since Epcot and Magic Kingdom are highlighted on ABC with Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve and are probably more crowded. That and MGM just lends more of a party atmosphere with all the neon lights and the BAH looks more modern and party-like than Spaceship Earth and Cinderella’s Castle, which sells the feeling more for me."

Also, the kids and my mother-in-law had a great time since they were given New Year's top hats and noise makers and beads. This was around 5:00 and they arrived back at All Star Music dressed in fine gear. But at midnight, we were able to go outside of our building at Music and see the special Illuminations fireworks. Totally awesome and the same ones we saw one year at Fourth of July. My husband says it appears that Disney World takes every single firework in the state of Florida and explodes them.

Either way, it's going to be awesome for you.

I wouldn't go to Epcot on NYE if you paid me a million dollars! We were there 12/31/2003. It was so crowded that at 10:00 AM there were no test track fast passes. People were leaving the park already. By lunch time it was so crowded you couldn't walk without someone being there first. It was horrid. Our 2 1/2 year old got a fever (we noticed at lunch), so we got out of there. The line for guest services was about 40 deep, outside the door. We got another days ticket and cancelled our PS's, and left (we didn't stay on that line, my in-laws did). Spent the day at the house and the private pool, and had a great NYE!!
