Hello all! We are taking our first WDW family vacation the first week in October. It'll be me, DH, DD (9), and DS (5 months at time of trip). I have never been to WDW any other time than the summer, so I am very excited to go in the fall. I know that Epcot has the Food and Wine Festival then. Has anyone been there for this? What is it like and what should I expect?

Thanks!! :mickeybar

Ya know..it's odd.

The festival has been run for more than 15 years now...and not one single person has yet to attend! :rotfl:

;)

It's a wonderful time, check out the sticky post at the top of this board (link below) for alot more detail...make sure to check out the 2010 info to get a 'taste' of what goes on (2011 info is pending)

It's very much fun ... Not too great for the kids though (unless they're budding foodies).

It's not a serious "foodie" or "wine geek" event in the vein of the events hosted by Aspen, Pebble Beach, South Beach or the Napa Valley Wine Auction. But it is a fun change of pace where you can sample foods and wines (and beer) in small quantities that aren't normally offered at WDW. The "event" such as it is (and I say that because it is mostly a passive showcase where you buy food and wine to sample, as opposed to an active event where you go to cookig demonstrations and wine seminars for a hands on experience) takes place mostly around the perimeter of the World Showcase. There are some wine seminars and cooking demonstrations that you can sign up for that take place in the festival center (old Wonders of Life Pavillion), and those can be fun to attend if you are at WDW at that time of year. But it would be an overstatement to say that these seminars are "serious" enough to warrant a special trip down to WDW if food and wine is your thing. Finally, there are some special dinners that are definitely worth looking into. Celebrity chefs will take over a kitchen for an evening and serve a special menu to those that have signed up. The dinners are usually paired with wines from a featured winery. These dinners can be costly, but are probably the best part of the event, all things considered, if you are into food and wine events. Or if you are just into sampling $4.00 servings of lamb kabobs or Brazilian beef, then the walk-around stations at WS would be more your thing.

It's a great event to attend if you like to eat, drink and be merry. I would say the festival is more adult oriented for sure.
