Epcot Dining ... 20 Years Ago

Ah, the nostalgia! I miss Alfredo's, the Mickey-shaped butter, the sidewalk cafe in France, Kitchen Kabaret, the smell of tollhouse cookies baking in the sunshine seasons area and the video reservation kiosks (although agree they wouldn't work today). Not directly food related but also miss the old theme song to "Living with the Land."

We used to love Akershus pre-princesses. Haven't been there since it became character dining 24/7.

My first visit to WDW, we were a party of 13, and we arrived on Thanksgiving Day. We made all our ADRs when we got to the resort, and Akershus was the only one we weren't able to get. By the time we went back to WDW 2 years later, it had become a princess meal. I've always regretted the fact that I wasn't able to experience that restaurant in its former glory.

We ate at the Land Grille back on our first trip to WDW in 1992 and we got straw farm hats with the meal! They had sunflowers painted on the interior wall, so the photos looked like you were farming in a sunflower field with the characters.

This was the same time frame when Delta was the "official airline" of Disney World and we got paper Mickey visors on the flight. The nose popped up to make a sort of 3D effect. As a kid, this was super cool.

I also vaguely remember the pizza place in what I believe was called Communicore at the time. I think it had a similar decor to Electric Umbrella with purple carpet on the walls and several little nooks and crannies for the seating area. I went to eat there on another trip and it was not there; I was very confused at the time because I had remembered a pizza place in that spot and thought my mind was playing tricks on me.

What a fun thread! I have photos of my family eating in a restaurant and Mickey, Minney and Goofy came to our table dressed as astronauts. I have no idea where that restaurant was but I thought it was EPCOT. It was 1986.

I clearly remember when Crystal Palace was a buffeteria. It was my favorite because there were so many things to pick from!

I love reminiscing about older Disney days. In 1989, on my very first trip with my family, we went to whatever the food court in the Land pavilion was called at the time and I got some sort of barbecue chicken sandwich. To this day, any barbecue sauce reminds me of that meal.

When my then-boyfriend (now husband) went on our first trip together in 2001, we ate at Akershus, I have no idea why (maybe because it was a walk-in?). But we loved it, especially the venison stew at the buffet. Have only been back for princess breakfast, so I don't know if it's still there.
