Epcot Day Question

We would love to be at Epcot for Illuminations, and we have an ADR at 12:25 for Akershus so I was thinking of just making our way to the park late morning say walking through the gates by noon so as to not make it a super long day (we're doing MK the day before and it's scheduled to be a long day). As for the morning, would you relax at your resort or take the 2 hours of down time and head to DTD for some shopping and sight seeing? We didn't really plan on hitting DTD that much the week we are there, so I was just thinking today, maybe this would be a good time for us to get over there for a few hours since we're early risers anyways and won't be sleeping past 8am. lol Or would you choose to spend that morning at a park?

My trips usually have DTD slated for the night we're at AK since it closes so early, so there's that. As for stay at the resort or no, I'd want to know what resort are you at? Some have more things to occupy your time than others.

We're just at the AofA this trip. Great idea regarding sharing it with an AK day due to early closing, I will have to take a look at that as well. I don't have that day planned yet.

I'm staying at AoA for the first time next year, but it doesn't seem like it's got the most to just wander around and do apart from swim. Another idea to occupy your time outside of the park: Take the bus to Hollywood Studios, then from there take the boats to the Swan & Dolphin. Walk around there, then the Boardwalk, then take the boat from the Boardwalk to Epcot - it will drop you off at the World Showcase and then take your time to get to Norway. Sounds like a good way to take your time, relax, and see some new things without being in the hustle-and-bustle of the parks!

Epcot for the day has many relaxing things to do in my opinion but dtd is also a solid choice! I would walk to beach club and take the bus to dtd and then a bus back to beach club and then heading to world showcase for the night time!

Thanks, I like that idea too I know my mom would enjoy some time with no specific plans and it would be a great way to use some of the other Disney transportation that we don't normally think of using!

I make an effort to explore the Epcot resort area every time I go and I definitely try to use all the transportation methods at least once (bus, monorail, ferry boat, friendship boat.) The variety definitely adds to the trip!
