Hi
@Grateful Mickey! My mom had multiple strokes - I'm so glad to see that you are doing so well!
As
@gap2368 said above, turning off your scooter whenever you are not moving for more than a few seconds can help prolong your battery life A LOT.
For example, I turn off my scooter any time I stop to watch a parade, performance, or even chat with a Cast Member.
I turn off my scooter any time I get off of it - just for safety, if nothing else. I don't want to bump the throttle, and then have it "scoot" away from me while I am trying to get back on!
I turn of my scooter - even if I am sitting on it - during meals, breaks, when we stop to consult a map, if someone else in my group needs a potty break... I turn it off. Waiting for a bus? Turn if off. Riding on the bus? Turn it off. Watching fireworks? Turn it off!
If I am in line, waiting to purchase food or merchandise, and the line is slow... I turn it off. Unlike with a car's gasoline engine, you don't have to worry about turning the scooter on and off - there is no "surge" or extra power draw every time you turn it back on. It's just like flipping a light switch; it's really just a simple circuit.
So, that's the first "rule" of good battery hygiene at Disney World.
Other tips for you include, but are not limited to:
- Make sure you charge your battery completely every night, overnight while you sleep. Most scooters can recharge fully in 8 hours. If yours can't charge fully in 8 hours or less - or if it never recharges fully no matter how long you charge it, you may want to look at getting a replacement battery. Batteries *do* eventually fail, no matter how hard we try to take care of them.
- Remember that the more weight you carry on your scooter, the more drain there is on the battery. So, while it is often tempting for family and friends to "pile on" their stuff on your scooter, they are just causing your battery to drain faster! Unless it's medical equipment related, carry as little as possible on your scooter (besides you!)
If you do need to periodically charge your scooter during the day while in the Parks at WDW, be sure to ask a Cast Member where you are allowed to plug in and charge. Most of the Table Service restaurants tend to have someplace (either out front, or near by) where you can plug in.
I hope you enjoy your dinner at Le Cellier, and your entire trip!
