i made ressies at 9 dragons for dinner, but was thinking of changing it to san angel. we love chinese and mexican, so i can't decide. how are the portion sizes at these restaurants? is there any place to get nachos and margaritas? i only saw the margarita stand which only had drinks. this is tough.

I've not eaten at 9 Dragons, but the portions at San Angel are huge. At least mine was. I had...shoot, can't remember the name...maybe Mole Poblano? It was really yummy and enough food for two or three people.

Nine Dragons is GREAT. The service was some of the best we've experienced. The servers were all trying to come up with a Chinese name for the dog we were about to get (we were going to get a Chow) and our server was showing us how she can pick up heavy forks and knives or anything with chopsticks. The food was EXCELLENT. We had to alter a couple of dishes as we are vegetarian, and they were very helpful. The restaurant is gorgeous, too. Go to Nine Dragons! :cheer2:

Do you like authentic Mexican or TexMex? We don't like San Angel at ALL - it's not the type we like. Plus being in Texas we have a great mexican place on every corner and eat it often. You can get nachos at the Cantina outside Mexico, and they also have a margarita stand.

We are trying Nine Dragons for the 1st time in October. It's not talked about often here, but we want to try new places every trip so this is a new one for us.

I had that dilemma too. I would try to squeeze in both for lunch if you can swing it, but that's just me!

We too don't care for San Angel but love Nine Dragons. Be warned though, the portions ARE HUGE! Go hungry. Enjoy

Two of my very favorite restaurants! I do think San Angel is different from the mexican restaurant down the street - no tacos or fajitas. But the food is yummy! Nine Dragons is expensive - Fried Rice was pricey but it was the best fried rice I ever saw or ate! The wait staff at Nine Dragons puts it over the top for me - they were sooooooo very nice to my kids, and were very talkative about the origins of the food.

In Mexico, you can get nachos and tacos and margaritas at the cantina outside.

I've been to both and enjoyed both. Went to 9 Dragons for Dad's bday. Food was great, everyone was very nice, they brought out a bday card and cake. Not the BEST chinese we've ever had, but very good. Like you, we could survive on Mexican and Chinese. The inside was beautiful. Lots of red and gold from what I remember.

San Angel was great for a romantic, dim dinner. Loved the atmosphere with the volcano in the background. Again, not the best mexican, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think as long as you don't go in expecting 5 star dining, you'll thoroughly enjoy either. If it tells you anything, we're not going back to either this visit. They were good, but not so out-of-this-world that we have to go back every trip. We're trying Le Cellier instead for a new experience. Hope we won't be missing 9 Dragons/San Angel. ;) Just MHO. Good Luck.
