My neighbors went to Disneyland last October and said that the only entrance open was on Harbor. We are going with them this October and I would like to stay at either Paridise Pier or Disneyland Hotel, but they do not as they don't want to have to walk around to Harbor. Has this always been the case? Something with COVID? Is there not an entrance on the west side of the parks? We usually go to WDW so I'm a bit lost on this one.

Your neighbors are wrong.

Both entrances have been open the whole time.

Hum... they rented a vacation home on the west side and were told it was a 15 min walk. They got there and it was 30 minutes and had to "walk around". Was there maybe construction or something that could have caused something like that? Is the walk from the Disney hotels around 10-15 min?

the only thing I can think of , is that they went the wrong way. that instead of going north to the Downtown Disney entrance, they went south, ended up at W Katella and then walked all the way north up Harbour

No. There was nothing happening at any time that closed the other entrance. That entrance near the Disneyland hotel has been serving people who parked in the parking structure, Downtown Disney parking lot and guests of the DLH and Paradise Pier since the parks reopened last year, with no interruptions.

The walk from the DLH is about 10-15 to the main gate, yes. It's about half a mile.

I think they got lost. The west side has been open since at least Nov. 2020. We used it to enter for Thanksgiving 2020.

Thousands of us have been going to resort even when only Downtown Disney reopened during pandemic. Harbor and DtD entry security check points have both been open the entire time.

Sounds like they were lost or aren't being clear about what 'walk around' means. Prior to tram service returning you had to enter DtD from Disneyland Hotel side (not the spot between old ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe/Star Wars shop.) They could of been told by security to walk around to the correct DtD entry which isn't that far away, just around a building and landscape parking lot.

Hard to tell distance only hearing they booked a west side vacation home.... was it across street or 10 miles away? Kidding, but you get my point. West side of Disneyland covers large area. ;)

I think I know the area you're talking about, and I suspect that Wesley815 is right and they got lost. It can be really confusing coming in from the Walnut side. I suspect they tried going through the DLH parking lot or something like that and were turned away. The entrance to DTD is not far from there, but you could miss it if you don't know what you're looking for.

I guess the more important question is why would they think that Disney would do this, and shoot themselves in the foot, and not allow Disney hotel guests walk in normally, as well as people who walk from Mickey and Friends parking?

Thanks for the info. I thought it was all open, but they kept saying it wasn't and they had to walk too far. Maybe they were a little south and west. It's also possible the vacation home wasn't honest about how close it was. Whatever the case I'm glad to hear it won't be a problem from the west side.
