On the Calender under entertainment on disneyland.com it says:

Club Buzz stage presents sandbox- then the hours listed. & Jump, Jive, Boogie Swing Party featuring Stompy Jones- then those hours.

So what type of events are these? Any characters at these events?

They are live music shows. Typically no characters. Buzz might be at the Club Buzz stage, but isnt typically there when a band is playing.

Sandbox would be a rock band. The Swing thing is swing dancing at the Carnation Plaza Gardens. No characters will be at either of these.
