Entertainment Book - Universal Meal/Deal Coupon

Well it seems no matter what they do, there will be people who are critical. It was established that the problem was with AMC but Universal got to take the brunt of it all. It's obvious that you are still unhappy with Universal. My advice is to stick with Disney as we know they never change policy. :rotfl2:

As I mentioned above, some people just have an unbelievably poor attitude. :sad2:

I am so glad to hear that the coupons are being honored again. I know you can not see it but I am doing my happy dance.

thank you, thank you, thank you for posting. You have really made my day.

I'm not the one with the poor attitude if the poster were directing comments to my attitude. I was there and I was treated rudely by the folks at Universal. I am happy they are accepting the coupon again for those of you who might want to go. My point is and has always been that the customer service at the management level was poor and that they were rude to us. I originally only posted to tell other DISERS not to bother with the coupon because of what happened to us. I never once raised my voice, cursed them out or was unreasonable. We were toward the end of our 11 day vacation and were looking forward to having dinner and a movie with our family. Relaxing at a movie sounded fun after all the theme park walking we did. Universal handled the situation ALL wrong. I am happy that Universal worked out the deal for other people.
But please do not ask me to thank them.
The people at entertainment indicated that this whole deal was a breach of contract if they did not accept the coupon. Then a week after many complained an investigation was done by Entertainment and that is likely the reason Universal is accepting the coupon again. It's not out of the goodness of their hearts.
So anywho, we ended up eating at a great place in Epcot the next day and seeing Ice Age 2 when we got home. :cheer2:
You might have felt differently about this whole deal if you were treated the way we were at Citywalk. We have great memories of our trip and this was a minor bump along the way :wave2:

I am glad to hear they are honoring the coupon again. Sometimes that squeaky wheel thing works wonders. (and I dont mean rudeness, just letting ppl know what you are thinking) I will be using my coupon in June!

:hippie:

I'm glad to hear they are accepting the coupons again. Hopefully they will still be accepting them when we go in November :thumbsup2 .

I didn't complain to Universal either, but I did send an email to Entertainment Book just letting them know they weren't accepting the coupons, but I wasn't nasty about it. We were going no matter what. I was going to cancel the first night of our stay at RPR, because we were only planning on going to have dinner and a movie before our vacation acutally started, but I hadn't got around to cancelling yet, so it will stay as is.

Does anyone know if you need to bring your card with. I just want to make a note to remind myself to bring the cards (I should probably just bring them to be sure).

I haven't heard anyone mention needing the card, but I don't really know. I was just going to suggest that you may want to take them anyway. I think the book has a BOGO entree offer for Trattoria del Porto @ PBH. After you get there, you may decide you want to take advantage of that. :) Enjoy your trip!!! :goodvibes

i did nothing like this group did.

i have the ent book with the couponfor the meal and movie and figured that was not the reason i was going to UO.

no letters, no emails, no calling to complain to anyone.

last year it had the same deal in the book.
i left the coupon at home, it expired at the end of last year.

i'll get the vouchers when i am down there but know i won't be using the movie voucher, only the meal.

and, the meal might be iffy for me. i plan to spend all my time in the park and at hhn. if i can break away and go to city walk, i will.

i'll decide when i am there if i want to leave the park for lunch out.

Although I don't agree with people collecting enough coupons to eat free on their whole trip, I hope that Universal will now be consistent on their policy of honoring them this year. Like I said before, I tried to use 2 back in January and they told me they were just advertisement. Then I tried to use them again at the beginning of April and they honored them with no problem. Then I heard they stopped honoring them again, and now they are honoring them again. That really doesn't look very good on Universal.
I think the coupons were abused. I know that when I got my 3 Entertainment books this years (I have 3 kids and they were all selling them so of course I had to buy 3 ;) ), My friends and I sat down and traded coupons out of each of our books that we wanted more. For example, I traded all my coupons for restaurants that I knew I wouldn't go to for coupons to The Avenue and McDonalds which I knew I would use. I could easily see someone doing that with the Universal coupons esp. if they live far away from Orlando and alot of people that had the book that they knew didn't care about going to Universal that year or didn't care about that free Movie and Meal deal coupon. So, I could see how someone could collect up alot of coupons for one place, I know I have, but buy one get one free cheeseburgers is alot different than a whole movie and meal deal free.

I'll have to look for the Trattoria offer. My daughter loves eating at PBH.

My kids are at the age (9 & 10) that they love Universal and we would have never cancelled the trip because the coupons weren't valid. They'd be very upset with me :guilty: . But we didn't need the first night there if we didn't have the Movie & Meal offer, because that is the only reason I had ressies for the extra night.

Thanks for the info on Trattoria!

I don't think there is any difference with buy one get one free cheeseburger coupons and this offer. I am glad they are accepting the coupons again. We were planning on going to Universal/IOA in August but did not plan on having dinner until I realized I had a coupon in my Entertainment book. It will surely keep me in the park longer, most likely I will buy more souveniers etc. I do not see how this could be a losing deal for the vendor.

I do not think there is anything wrong with expecting people to live up to their advertising.

Again, I'm very happy they have chosen to do the right thing. I completely understand those who are unhappy who fell between the gap on this one.

This offer is totally free, there is a huge difference. There is no requirement to buy anything. I can see how this could be a losing effort for Universal, especially when people are using a coupon for each family member and doing it more than one night. I seriously doubt they intended for that to happen.

if you are using the meal and movie coupons don't use them for the kids. Instead Pay Out of Pocket you will have more of a value.

for example: Hardrock cafe use 2 coupons for the adults and check out the kids meals for the kids. Mine absolutely love the pepperoni pizza w/drink 5.99 each plus tax and tip.

If you do this you can use any extra coupons that you might have for another time during your stay.

Just another one of my budget stretchers I wanted to share.

My point was, using multiple coupons when the intent is one per customer really isn't different. The scenario described people swapping coupons. Whether it's next door neighbors or on line communities swapping coupons, it's all the same.

I seriously doubt this is a losing effort for Universal. These people have tons of money, I highly doubt their marketing teams/firms don't know what they are doing. Keeping people at Universal until the dinner hour is a good strategy!

If they only wanted to limit one per customer...it should have been printed on the coupon. If you print 100,000 coupons...you should expect 100,000 to be redeemed. You can't forecast what MAY happen.

I am so pleased to hear we can use our coupons! Hope this remains fact until our trip in October!! Whether or not they are valid, we will still do US and IOA. My kids love it and have not been for 2 years. Like I said in a previous post, it is just the icing on the cake, not the whole reason for going. Thank you US for giving us a little "magic" at your parks! Just goes to show you other parks do not have the only "pixie dust"! pixiedust:

I hope for your sake & the sake of those in a similar situation to yours that they continue to honor the coupons. I also hope the blatant abuse will cease, so it's more likely they will.

I wouldn't have foreseen this being a losing proposition, until I read these boards. Now, I can easily see how it could be. There's just too many people who want to spend the bulk of their time & money at WDW, then go to Universal just for the freebie. UO ends up feeding this family for free & not getting anything in return. This is similar to the Express Pass situation. I've read lots of posts where people we angry that Universal wanted them to pay for a ticket, then purchase an express pass. They go on to say that they won't stay on property to get the perk, because they'll be staying on WDW property. It has truly surprised me how many people think WDW deserves their money & UO should be offering them a great deal just to get them there for the day. For those people, I don't feel sorry that the EP system was discontinued. For those who are local or can't afford to stay onsite at either location, it's a shame something couldn't be worked out.

I wish we could stay on property at UO, however we have yet been able to swing that deal.($$$$) Working on it for at least a couple of days in the future. Maybe AAA can help us. We do DW, but not when we do UO. We try to alternate years! My kids would love it! We will use our coupons if they are 20% or free or refused!! Hard Rock and NBA City are regulars for us, so maybe on the first night we are there and tired from traveling, we will have a relaxing dinner and take in a movie! It is very hard for me to understand planning a whole trip around one free meal and a movie. We cannot plan our DW trips around free dining and that is for the entire trip! With kids in school timing is everything!

I am not sure what tarheelmjfan meant "feeding this family" and was referring to mine, but we will not spend the bulk of our vacation at WDW and we have purchased tickets for UO! I also only have two coupons so my whole family (6 of us) will not eat for free! FYI!

Sorry, I think you misunderstood what I said. This was the comment about your family:

"I hope for your sake & the sake of those in a similar situation to yours that they continue to honor the coupons."

"There's just too many people who want to spend the bulk of their time & money at WDW, then go to Universal just for the freebie. UO ends up feeding this family for free & not getting anything in return."

The family I was referring to in this statement, is the ones who spend all their time at WDW only coming to UO for the free meal & movie then head back to their WDW hotel. I was just pointing out that I can see how Universal could be losing money on this coupon. They would definitely lose money in this case.
