Entertainment Book - Universal Meal/Deal Coupon

And dishonest is dishonest....

I read about this on another part of the board and came over to see what the fuss was about...And what do I find, a "the rules don't apply to me" post.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

I am famous? I will be paying spending my vacation time looking at movies when I pay high money to be at the theme parks not at the movies? Didn`t you sense some kind of resentment againts AMC because I think they are the ones messing up with the meal and movie tickets. Yes watching two movies is dishonest and it does not make sense to pay for a expensive hotel/vacation just to be inside a movie to get back at a company. It is also dumb, but my feelings right now are messing with my brain hopefully when I go universal, if I go to universal, I feel much better about them and about the changes that they are constanly doing. Right now, I just SAW another Change, Now I have to walk farther at IOA and will be waiting longer because they just removed the BURGER DIG restaurant form the participating meal deal that is being sold at the universal website. Anybody knows why they removed the burger dig from the participating list a month after I bought my tickets? It was another misprint?

My family doesn't go to movies, when we're on vacation either. That's the reason I didn't even bother trying to get a coupon, when they were being honored. Why would we want to pay for 2 in our family to go to a movie we didn't want to see, just so one of us could get a free movie & meal? :confused3

Unfortunately, constant changes are a part of the themepark world. Living 1 hr. & 15 min. from Orlando, I've seen many at all the parks. In order to enjoy the anticipation of planning & going on your trip, you need to be able to take the changes in stride. Perhaps, the reason I don't see them as a big deal is because it happens all the time. In order to guarantee no changes on your trip, you'd need to plan a trip to someplace other than any of the Orlando (or any other) theme parks.

Yes, you are right! I did not went to any of the theme park last year. So now I have to try to accept all the new changes, and what you are saying. It is hard to accept changes. And on top of that when I see new changes, I keep thinking "more changes are coming." I should stop worring for more changes, and accept the things I can not change to have a wondeful vacation for me and my family. Thank You!

tarheelmjfan:I dont want to make longer this thread. The answer to you question below, about when I am going, I can answer it here. I am going memorial day.
How many days? Remember I was upset at USF,And I made some changes to my original vacation, but I am not upset anymore thanks to you. So maybe for 4 days. maybe for 3 days. I know I will definetly be there Sunday and Monday. I have to re-program my vacation.

Thanks Phamton for explaining it to me! I though my firewall was playing tricks on me whenever I look at the universal website.
The universal web site should add another symbol next to restaurant number 4 (if it appears again) and in small print it should put your explanation "only during the busy times to lesson the wait times on the other 3 meal deal restaurants in each park." I went krazy activating and disactivating my firewall, anti virus, adware, etc, trying to make restaurant 4 appear cause nobody answered my question about this, I was confused, and I thought it was my pc doing this. Now, I know.

Neither Burger Digs nor Monster Cafe were in the original meal deal. They added both of them only during the busy times to lesson the wait times on the other 3 meal deal restaurants in each park. They were added during Spring Break time and will be added again during the busy months of summer. It was a temporary addition and never intended to be permanent. If you look for the original threads on the meal deal including the menus, you will see that neither Burger Digs nor Monster Cafe were listed. This will be a very unpopular post among some of you here, but here I go:

I have seen some posters here post about e-mailing Universal/Entertainment Book or Calling specific people at these companies with the sole reason to complain about the whole coupon deal.

Now, what are the chances you will connect with someone who will be able to solve your problem? Are you expecting them to overturn their decision just for you? Do you think the people you will talk to are the ones responsible for the decisions regarding the coupon. I highly doubt it.

Also, don't you think these people have their own jobs to do? I'm sure they have more important things to do than listening to people complain about a coupon especially when they can't do anything to change it. Leave these people alone and let them do their jobs.

And before anyone brings up the argument "But if we all argue they will change their mind"

My rebuttal? No, they will not. The coupon was being abused and its their right to change it whether or not you all like it.

I really can't understand this comment. A customer service team is there to deal with customer service 'issues'. Therefore it is an integral part of their job to consider and respond to complaints from customers. If you apply your logic to customer service issues in general then none of us would ever express disatisfaction with anything because there would be no point. Why take the cake with a hair in it back to the grocery store - the poor employee on the customer service desk didn't cook it! What is he or she meant to do about it? Escalate as appropriate - surely not!

I have really appreciated some of the advice provided by US employees on this board. It has certainly helped me to shape my holiday plans. BUT I do feel Universal (the Organisation) has handled this matter very poorly. I have not abused nor was I intending to abuse this coupon offer. I feel (legitimately) concerned that the investment my family members made in Entertainment Books is now prejudiced by the failure of Universal to manage properly either the 'incorrect printing' in the first instance, or the subsequent abuse of the offer by introducing proper monitoring procedures ( for example a requirement to produce the Entertainment Card).

My biggest gripe however is that I have on three occasions telephoned Universal (from the UK) to discuss this and have on each occasion been transferred to a voicemail response (fair enough). However despite my leaving a detailed message and contact details on no occasion has my call been returned. This does wind me up. As a customer who has invested a significant amount of money in visiting, dining and staying on site at UO over the years, I expect at least the courtesy of a response to my approaches. Sorry but this IS very poor customer service.

Guest Services is there to deal with complaints. It is part of the job and the only way any business can measure customer satisfaction or disastisfaction is by feedback from their consumers. It is appreciated when guests let the company know what they can do to satisfy the public. I am sure Universal is considering all the comments. Whether they can reasonably fix the problem with AMC remains to be seen.

About the voice mail, normally you don't get voice mail unless you are calling after hours. Isn't a phone call from the UK to the USA expensive? If you email them, you will get a response and it won't cost you money. Email: GuestServices@universalorlando.com

I am fairly certain that I did call during operational hours as I got through to a 'real' person first (but was then transferred and got a voice mail message).

Thank you Phamton, it is getting expensive so I will email as suggested.

The impression I have gotten from this thread, is that some of the calls made to complain about this so-called problem (coupon was being abused, company has right to change it, end of story for me) have been not-s-friendly. Once again, thats just the imrpession I have gotten. These people may be there to take feedback, but they don't need to put up with unreasonable guests, I'm sure they don't get paid enough to do that. Sure, they can log the complaint but its not gonig to change things.

I filed a merchant complaint with Entertainment book and am supposed to be notified when the situation has been remedied...so we'll see what happens!

Although I can agree with most of your post, the part I quoted - is further from the truth. One complaint to customer service can represent thousands. I learned that from a friend of mine who once logged complaints for the Better Business Bureau. She taught me that 100 complaints could easily represent a million people. Now, I'm not going to act as if 1 million individuals bought and plan to use this Entertainment book coupon, but complaints (along with possible solutions) can go a very long way. Complaints have and will continue to bring about great change in this country. When I emailed customer service, I offered 2 possible solutions. The first solution was to "reinstate" the coupon and only allow the coupon if it accompanied with the entertainment card. The second possible solution is to accept one coupon per party. Now, yes it’s likely that my email will never see the eyes of an individual, but it’s a small chance it will come across the desk of someone who can make changes. It’s like the lottery – I will never win – because I never buy a ticket!!!!

I just got a call from Connie Colley, the meal deal coupon is now being accepted again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Universal has decided to honor it again. They just decided last night @ 6p.m.

To the person who was calling her from the UK: Connie says she is sorry for not getting back with you she said she wasn't sure what the phone number was. If you don't call abroad often then that's very understandable. She sends her apoligies.

To all those who sent emails to Universal about their poor customer service where the coupon was concerned please send others thanking them for valueing their patrons and changing their policies. It's the least we can do! :)

My hope is all the people who made claims that Universal has terrible customer service will post here and recant. But I doubt we'll see most of them on this board anymore. It would be nice to see a few helpful tips from them though.

It's easy to complain but most don't praise a company for addressing their issues. I also wonder about those who decided to cancel their trip over a movie/meal deal. How many will rebook to show their support?

I have been reading this thread the last couple of days. I didn't post anything negative nor did I complain to Universal. However, I am glad they are honoring the coupon again. We plan to use our ONE coupon from the book I purchased next week. I did e-mail Universal though and told them how happy I was that they are accepting the coupon again. I thought they might appreciate a positive e-mail after all the nasty ones I am sure they received. We've always liked Univesal and are thrilled with the ticket deals they are offering now. The movie/meal coupon is just icing on the cake! This is the first vacation we are doing Universal only. No Disney for us!

I am pleased with the decision to reinstate the coupon. I was not nasty with Universal and if I get a response from my email that I sent to Universal, I will gladly thank them for their decision.

I think they made the right choice. Now I'll have to rethink my vacation days and try to work Universal in on one...

I love your attitude!!! :goodvibes I'm glad Universal decided to honor the coupons for those of you who intended to do things the right way & had a great attitude about the whole thing. The only reason I defended Universal in the 1st place was the unbelievable attitude of some the people posting here. :sad2: I'm glad it all worked out. We'll all have a fantastic trip! Those with an attitude like yours will have an even better one, because of their positive frame of mind. :)

Should I word my thank you letter to Universal something like this?

Dear Universal City Walk,
Thank you for deciding to honor the coupon you had printed in the entertaintment book for the free movie and meal deal in 2005. Also, thank you for honoring it in 2006 except for the week my family wanted to use it in April. It is nice to know a company that established a legal contract with the Entertainment company realized that changing a free coupon to 15.95 is fraudulant. Thank you for taking the advice of the advertising legal division at the Entertainment book company and deciding to honor the original coupon for the remainder of the year. :lmao:

Well it seems no matter what they do, there will be people who are critical. It was established that the problem was with AMC but Universal got to take the brunt of it all. It's obvious that you are still unhappy with Universal. My advice is to stick with Disney as we know they never change policy. :rotfl2:
