Entertainment at small wedding?

We are in the earliest stages of wedding planning and while it's still a couple years off (shooting for October 2017) we need to get budget things in order if we want Disney!

If we do have a Disney wedding, we will have to keep the guest count to 50 max (so, family only. I have a big family lol), but one of the concerns we have is for entertainment at a small reception? We want something not overbearing on a smaller group like 50 and below, but also we don't want it to be boring, especially as this is a destination wedding for everyone we might invite, but not for us lol. This is a big consideration in whether or not we go Disney. Any and all advice or experiences welcome, please! Thank you in advance!

What time of day are you planning for and what kind of feel do you want? We had even fewer guests (34) at our reception, but because we wanted a casual brunch, we just had an iPod for background music so people could meet and chat. But if you want a dance party, it doesn't matter how small your group is—a good DJ can get any size group out on the dance floor.

We aren't totally decided, but I think a dinner reception with dancing is what we would really want. There was a concern raised we don't have enough people for that and it would look awkward so we should skip Disney and have a bigger wedding elsewhere, but a casual meal earlier in the day would be fun, too, because everything is fun at Disney haha. Thanks for your input! :)

Lots of girls have had weddings with dancing with groups the same size as yours. Check out some of the PJs maybe to find some of you're not getting any answers from them.

It doesn't matter how big or small the wedding is...everyone loves a dance party!!!
We're having between 40 and 60 guests and we've hired a DJ! :)

Agreed. 50 people is actually on the large side compared to many of the weddings detailed on these boards.

we are having under 40 - we are doing a brunch reception and are going to have an ipod so we can do our first dance and then if anyone wants to dance they have the opportunity. the reception is on the short side 10:30-1 but then we are all meeting back up in epcot for the evening. we are locals but our families are from up north so figured its "their vacation" and we dont want to occupy too much of their time. we are doing a welcome party and a farewell party as well so there will be more than enough wedding stuff. good luck

Thanks for all your responses! I'm feeling a little more confident in wanting a dinner reception with dancing at Disney. But there are other suggestions here to keep in mind, it helps to get input from people outside your own little circle! :)

My daughter invited 60 guests and 40 accepted. We had a DJ and were very glad we did because he livened things up a bit. He was very good at getting people on the dance floor. This was the first meeting of the two families in person so things were a little quiet initially (understandably). We are from PA and my daughter's husband & his family are from Florida. So we had never met in person before the wedding except for the two sets of parents. We had DJ Steve Weinstein and he was awesome. We all had a blast.

We had 55-60 guests at our wedding. We had our harp player from our ceremony play during cocktail hour. Then had a DJ & Mickey & Minnie at our reception

We are doing a weekday brunch reception for 40-50 people in June. We don't think we will have a dancing/DJ crowd but we are not crazy about an iPod set up so we are leaning toward a jazz trio depending on what they can play (I gave a song list to our planner and we are waiting to hear back). As for other entertainment, there are so many options. We have several in our BEO but we will most likely be cutting alot out as we are trying to stick as close to the $5000 minimum as we can.
