Entering The Parks

I have just read in a book that they search you at the turnstiles before entering the parks. Is this true and are they allowed to do this.

Bags are indeed searched. Yes it is legal. The parks are private property.

Yes, they search anything you are bringing into the park (i.e. backpacks, purses, fanny packs). This is a result of heightened security after 9/11.

Keep in mind this isn't a body search or anything. Security has you form a line, and they have you open up all your bags/ backpacks/ purses, etc. and they do a quick scan of the contents. Nobody gets "patted down" or has their stuff dumped out on a table.

Whether it is legal or not...got me. However, since 9/11 Disney has implemented certain security procedures, this "bag search" being one of them. Remember afer 9/11 there was a lot of hype about how vunerable theme parks would be to attacks, so Disney got as pro-active as they could while trying to "keep the magic".

In my opinion, this is not a big deal. The search is done kind of flipantly, and I have never seen anyone have any problems getting through (this includes people who bring food, drinks, and other "prohibited" items), and it takes a whopping five minutes to be processed.

Oh please don't think I mind, I totally realise why they must do it. I just sort of wanted to know what was searched i.e. your bags or yourself . Was going to take lots of water for DS so was also a bit worried also incase they took it all off us.

The last time I was there (April 2004) I was asked to open my purse going into the Magic Kingdom, but I was the only one in my party that was asked to do so. I saw a woman at one of the other turnstiles basically having to take everything out of her backpack. I don't have a problem with it, either; I think it's a good thing. However, if you're gonna search one, search 'em all. But that's just my opinion!

They don't search persons. They take a cursory glance through your bags. They won't confiscate water.

They're looking for stuff that's dangerous -- they're not trying to enforce park rules about what you can bring into the park at the security checkpoint.

I carried a backpack each day and each day I would have to open each compartment and also my small camera bag. I thought they did a very thorough search without making it feel uncomfortable. I also noticed they would search any 'cargo' beneath strollers and such. The line will go much quicker if you approach the line with your bags and cases already open.

The only time you have to take anything out is if you have alot of stuff in your bag and they can't see to the bottom. They use a stick to move things around. Also they wan't you to open camera bags, even small ones. I was at the Cubs game the other night and they searched our bags the same exact way.

Definitely come to the line with your bags already open... the lines move so slow because people aren't ready and it really doesn't need to be a slow process. Also there's a finger print ID once you insert your tickets. Anyone else think this is a pain in the butt??? First of all, a lot of people have trouble with it because they don't understand how it works (like me my first time at the ticket entrance this past trip) and your fingers have to be in there at the perfect angle it seems. it's a good thought, it just holds up the line even more. (haha, i probably sound like the most impatient person in the world right now!!)
