While DL and DCA are known by most everyone, using abbreviations for each attraction/area can be a big mystery to a lot of people. Can posters please spell out at least once per post, to help unknowing people out? Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Here's the link to the abbreviations for the "unknowing". With 4 kids (& that half the time I post from my iPhone) I'm continuing to use abbreviations to limit my typing time.

I believe you forgot the link. While that is definately helpful, as you save time by typing abbreviations, it would take a lot of us a lot more time to constantly be checking a separate link for meanings of abbreviations. I'm just asking to consider typing in the names one time per post thread, not each time it is referenced. :thumbsup2

Thanks bumbershoot....that's what I get for posting from my iPhone!! :lmao:

Ones that I use that are not widely known are:

WCT: Wine Country Trattoria (for purpose of PS ressies during parades)
And I have tried to do MToTP instead of ToT party: for Mickey's Trick or Treat Party (gets confused with Tower of Terror)

Abbreviations tend to be a habit. At least Sherry isn't using WIDE screen for her posts anymore. :rolleyes1

It's a balance of course. Some of us with thousands of posts would grow weary of typing out Pirates of the Caribbean over and over and quickly learn the shorter POTC and just use that. Plus it is kind of fun trying to learn them all. :wizard:

I understand where you are coming from but the reality is people will continue to do it because for most people, in the long run, it takes less time to learn the abbreviations and then use them than to not use them at all - or even once per message.

My guess that your request for less abbreviations around here is sort of like trying to hold back the tide. :) I am not trying to discourage you or disparage your comment. I just think forums inevitably tend in this direction.

I hope the abbreviations list I created helps reduce your frustration along the way. :goodvibes

I suggest learning them, honestly when I first started I had no clue what most of the abbreviations were but it didn't take long to figure them out and if I still couldn't I just asked. :) Enjoy learning and our little corner of the Dis! :)

OP, I feel your pain. It's taking me awhile to figure them out as well. It would help, if I knew more about DL. I'm just learning the real names, much less the abbreviations. I know all the WDW abbreviations, because I know what the real names are. That makes it easier to figure it out. I am enjoying reading all the posts, & do appreciate how helpful everyone is. I'll just be puzzled for awhile, until I learn more about the subject I'm reading.

I know most now too and use them but every once in a while I come across one I can't figure out. Like BLAB. I was going throug rides in my head and I just couldn't guess what it was. :confused3 It turned out to be Buzz Lightyear Asro Blasters. We always just call it Buzz. Actually it is the same amount of letters to type anyway, so I still just call it that. :rotfl: But typing out the names all each Disney hotel and park takes too long.

Agreed. And both Space and Splash are SM...easier to just type out "space" or "splash" than type SM, not give enough context, and have to come back to explain (or worse, not come back, and have someone else explain for you).

It's funny...thinking about it now...if I type POTC I generally am talking about the movies...the ride is "Pirates". etc.

And speaking of confusing abbreviations, was disney trying to punish those of us on message boards by re-naming Early Entry to Magic Mornings? I mean seriously, I can't even imagine how much confusion they caused (even offline...I've seen people in line all confused as to what they had) by going from EE to MM, when they already had MTTMM! (Mickey's ToonTown Morning Madness to the OP and PP). Ugh.

I agree... the abbreviations are easy. They just take a little time to learn. You'll get them, I'm sure. I picked them up... and I have short term memory issues.

I always found it a fun challenge to try to figure out ones I didn't already know. And if you're really stumped on one, just ask in that particular thread. People here will kindly answer. :)

TTFN! (that's "ta ta for now!") ;)

Abbreviations over here on the DLR board are just as confusing for WDW vets as WDW abbreviations are for DLR vets. If I hadn't been planning a WDW vacation, I wouldn't know what CSR or POR (in your sig) were. For anyone wondering, they are Coronado Springs Resort and Port Orleans Resort.

I have that one on my Tigger pin. :tigger: :goodvibes

i get confused also

me to, I do not want to learn anything else, I spell out the whole thing and wish I did not have to go look up some abbreviation. Usually I just go past the thread as I do not want to bother. I can hardly remember names any more, let alone disney abbreviations.

I know where you're coming from, it can be bothersome! But honestly, if you end up sticking around even for just the week before & after your trips, you'll learn quite a few of them. I usually only stick around for a few months around our trip dates, then dont come back until our next trip, but I know most of them by now without trying too hard to memorize them. If you read through the abbreviation list once or twice, most will stick in your head.

Some I still dont know, like in the "what ride would you get rid of?" thread...I was like "HISTA, what in the world is THAT???" and finally someone spelled it out in one of their posts ("Honey I Shrunk the Audience") hehehe. :rotfl: Generally, someone eventually spells out the whole thing or makes a reference to it that helps me figure it out and I dont even need to check the abbrevation list.

But ya, if everyone just "keeps it in mind" and tries to do it when they can and its feasible, it would sure help the newbies out a lot. I'm sure it seems quite overwhelming for those not accustomed to it. I hope no one leaves b/c of it!!! I love this place!!! :woohoo:
