After driving down, my hubby is always tired and wanting to relax. Last trip, we arrived Sat. afternoon, had a fishing trip booked for Sunday morning at 10 and a chef mickey dinner reservation in the evening.... perfect first day for us!

This time we are arriving on Saturday again, our friends are getting there Sunday. Not sure what else we will do Sunday, but planning a dinner at Hoop Dee Doo with them on Sunday night. :thumbsup2

Edited to add:
Our next trip will be the first with the motor home, in the past we have driven down in our minivan. The trip will take us longer this time as we will have to go slower with the MH. I will have to see how my DH feels when we get there.

We usually just hang out at the campground the first day, swim, playgrounds, maybe a boat ride to another resort. Then we get giddy up and go for dinner.

We drive 1200 miles towing a fiver. We leave at 2:30 pm on Wednesday and arrive Friday morning usually. We do a little relaxing by the pool. DD7 and DS4 go down the slide a couple hundred times. We eat and head to MK for the first day. Nice easy boat ride. We get there late afternoon early evening. Hit up a few rides and get a good spot for the fireworks. It's always a perfect start to our vacation.

Depends, when we were Fort/WDW newbies we went to the parks. Now that we go more for The Fort than the Parks we chill out the first day.

I do what beagles says. Arrival day is for set-up, buying groceries off-property to stock up for the week, and a GAG for dinner. If there's time I try to hit the pool if weather permits.

I also like to be at the Fort for the full day on the day before departure FWIW.

Arrival day is always set up day.
We always go to Captain Jacks at DTD for dinner that night.
We do not feel the need to to the parks every day. It can be exhausting.
For example, we were at the Fort for 15 days over Thanksgiving this past year. We only went to the parks 5 of those days.
I just love being at the Fort. There is so much to do there and so many place to explore.
It is like a park on its own.

That is our kind of trip!

Our first few times at WDW we ran from park to park until we were tired and sick of the parks all together. Now we like to spend about 1/3 or our trip in the parks, and the rest as down time. Makes for a more relaxing vacation. :beach:

I was wondering that myself as we are driving down from Upstate NY for our trip in August. Nearly the same amount of driving you will have. We plan to just play it by ear and see how everyone feels.

We are always ready to hit the parks. But we only have one long day and night on the road and make sure that is usually around St. Augustine or area. We then sleep late, then arrive at FW about 11am, so we are good and refreshed.

Thats how it is for us! Especially after driving 1100 miles with 4 kids! Going to the parks every day can be exhausting, and the kids want to enjoy the Fort as much as we do!:cool1:

We travel 1500 miles from NH. We leave on Friday and arrive on Sunday early afternoon. Sunday is set up day and go out to eat off property.
Monday is a big breakfast at Trails End then just relax around the fort. We play a card game (Rummy) with the winner being the person to pick which park we go to first on Tuesday.

We don't do the parks on our day of arrival. We set up camp and will then usually go for a bike ride. We sometimes pick up a bucket of chicken or a sandwich and will take it down and eat at the marina. Sitting there listening to the banjo music playing, and hearing the sounds of the boat whistle coming in and out makes all the driving-down tensions disappear:goodvibes.

Its less the lack of energy then it is just wanting to take my time setting up and relaxing once I got there. So generally we dont plan on the parks on the first afternoon we arrive. This lets me get setup, relax and get the dogs off to park as they been couped up for 2 days.
