Did you girls have engagement parties?

I'm confused.... I think DF wants one, but I sometimes feel like they're a little overkill? Is it too much of a burden when having a destination wedding?

BUT- with a destination wedding, are you supposed to have one so everyone- those coming and those not coming- can celebrate?

What to do?

:confused3

I had one, too. It's just a celebration of your engagement, it can be as big or small as you want. I think it is a great way for parents of Bride and Groom to meet if they haven't already. I am really happy everyone got to meet, so the major players in my wedding will be slightly more comfortable with each other in WDW. I also had my engagement party almost a year ago and I have almost another year till the actual wedding, so with 23 months in between events, there was no chance for overkill, lol.

We didn't have one, but we did take an engagement trip to Disneyland! :goodvibes

We're having one. We'll be inviting a lot of people, as we know we won't be having a massive wedding. This is a chance for us to invite all the long lost people that we want to celebrate with, but don't really want at the wedding...

We had one. We wanted a "small" e-party and we had about 70 ppl. That is more than 1/2 our guest list. We did a very laid back backyard BBQ. Worked out great. It's all up to you if you want one!

We didn't want one as we wanted to use the money for our wedding. My mum did do a little get together for our close family of about 20 people.

That's really what we had, too. Our engagement party had 26 guests, including 3 kids who were under 5. We had ours at a hibachi steakhouse and we squeezed in at 2 grills (each one normally holds 12, but since we had two babies in high chairs, it worked out perfectly.) They gave us a gift table, set up our favors, had an open bar and let us keep leftovers for a VERY reasonable price. And we got a free cake and photograph. If you want one but are unsure, look into local restaurants and try to cut a deal. Also, remember you don't need to invite EVERYONE who you'd invite to a wedding. It's a nice way to get the parents or bridal party members to meet though. Good luck!

We had an engagement about half way through our engagement. I think that there were about 20-25 people in attendance. We had the dinner at nice resturant back in California in an area that was convient for all in attendance. Is it necessary, no. Honestly the only reason we had it was becuase the location that we had the dinner was the location that we had originally booked for our wedding (but canceled 2 months later and rescheduled for DL when all their hidden costs came out), and as the deposit was non-refundable we arrainged to use the funds this way. So in all it worked out for us.
