Stephanie and Chris

Disney's All Star Sports
Engagement Celebration
May 3, 2007 to May 7, 2007

As many already know, my name is Chris and I am a Disney freak, geek, nerd, or turd. Whichever you perfer to call it - I live for Disney! Growing up, I enjoyed being at Disney most for the rides. However, as I have grown, I learned to appreciate much more than the thrill of taking a five story plunge in an artifical wooden log. However, dont get me wrong - Splash Mountain is one of my favorites and I refuse to ride in any position other than the first (Stephanie can testify to that.) I am 21 and I have in the process of finishing college. In August of 2008, I will have my own classroom - at which I hope to teach the first grade.

I met the love of my life quite sometime ago. In fact, it was just over four years. I entered college at 17 and met her. Although she was older, we were mearly friends at the time. However, as people say - friends become lovers. Well, this is the case in our situation. In fact, we just recently came out and told each other our true feelings. Just after 4 years of meeting each other in an Algebra, taking tons of classes together, and being the best of friends, we are now happily engaged. We are planning on getting married once we both graduate. We will both be finished with our degree next year. I, with a teaching degree. She, with a nursing degree. We plan to spend the rest of our life together. We are the best of friends.

Recently, we have taken several trips to Disney. These trips were just day trips. I believe, I turned this chick into a Disney diva! Which is perfectly fine with me, because she is my Disney diva! We will be staying on site for the first time this May. We are staying at All Star Sports, basically because that was the only hotel available for the time we needed. We are looking to have a good time - which I know we both will.

We are currently in the planning process. Within the last few days, I will post our itinerary with full details of our touring procedure. I will begin with introductions within the last few days. Look for pictures and such to be posted rather soon.

Happy Reading,

Chris and Stephanie

Before I begin to ramble about our upcoming trip and the plans we have, I would like to begin by explaining more about ourselves. We are both in college, finishing our degrees.

Awww...what a sweet story.

Aww. Thanks for your comment. It really means a lot to me (US) that people are actually reading. I hope you enjoy our adventure. We are hoping to bring a computer with us and give a live update; however, we are unsure as if the hotel has wireless internet access - we shall see.

I am going to be posting pictures and an update sometime this afternoon or evening. Please keep reading and give us any comments or suggestions for our upcoming trip. Remember, we are going to be staying on- site for the first time. ;)

Okay, I have just one important question that I must ask you - how in the heck do you do it? Please, let me know. I am having the hardest time planning our upcoming trip and it is now almost a week away! I am paying for everything; thus, I have been put in charge. However, I am not sure how or where to begin. Recently, I became intrested in reading trip reports and I am just amazed at how much planning and time is actually involved. Now, when I sit down to begin - I get all stressed and confused. Oh, did I tell you, we are both taking finals this week and the beginning of next week. So, if you know what I mean - making time to plan is just becoming more and more of a stressful adventure. :headache:

I have been spending time on the DIS a lot lately. I already know the parks, front and back, but I am not sure on which days to attend which park. Let alone, if we should take advantage of extra magic hours! :confused3 I have been in contact with another DIS member who is also going during this time. They seemed to have everything planned out, whereas, us we are like chickens running around with our heads chopped off! :sad2: I always wanted to plan a dream vacation and now that I have the chance, it seems like to much of a hassle. If this is stressful, how in the heck am I going to be able to plan a honeymoon vacation that we will be taking this time next year? :scared1:

I am tired of complaining and I have decided that it is time to get down to business. As of now we only know of two things that are set in stone:
  • We are staying at All Star Sports from May 3rd through the 7th.
  • We have the MYW 3-day play pass w/ the park hopper.
We are not huge eaters. I am practically skin and bones and Stephanie is in the process of losing weight. Stephanie had the lap band procedure and lost a total of 175+lbs. Therefore, we will be planning no large meals - if you know what I mean. So, now I can forget about making reservations. We plan on eating at the resort or counterservice when we feel the need to eat. As for snacks, we will be stopping on our way to the store and pick up some of those ever so nifty - 100 calorie packs, that seem to be taking over the world. :rotfl:

I printed out the reservations, the ticket will call, the park hours, times for parades and fireworks, etc... Now, I am running into the challenge of picking what park for which days. I have set a large about of time today to get this taken care of. Then, I will study for the final at which I have tomorrow morning. Oh, did I say - I am welcome to suggestions! :wizard:

Oh, before I depart. I called the hotel and asked if I can make a change in my reservation. We want a room on the third floor in a specific building. They said we need to call back five days before we depart. This seemed strange, but we will do as we were told. We haven't started packing, but that will begin eventually.

I just checked the weather. The forecast for May 3rd is up - Sunny 88 degress. Something we are used to and welcome for. Our first day at the parks will be the 4th so we will be checking the weather reports constantly.

Did I mention that this wasn't our first visit to the world together? :confused3 Well, we never stayed onsite, we went on two previous day trips. Actually, we just went just over three weeks ago! Call me crazy but I am in love with all things Disney! I think that is one advantage of living in the state of Florida - living so close to Disney and getting the awesome discounts! So, before I continue talking about this upcoming trip, I am gonna share of pictures of weeks past... This past trip, our dreams mearly came true. Not literally, but it was a dream to us. We had the chance to ride in the front of the monorail, something I never got to do but always dreamt of doing. So, finally - we had a chance!

Another dream was when we were walking through EPCOT World Showcase. We were walking rather fast and was approached by Goofy. Actually, he ran up from behind and tapped me on the shoulder. It was rather funny because I had no idea what was going on. Are we going to stay in the Cinderella Castle? Actually, that would be a negative - but we got to do something even better. Well, to us. Goofy took us away and we had a private meet and greet with him along with Chip and Dale. It was a fun time. We all took pictures and talked. We had a great time!

36560530ie3.png

Disney is a place where anyone can become a kid and just have a great time doing so. Which is why we are so addicted. We love escaping reality and going to the world. It is our sense of comfort you might say. We are big on thrills. We love Splash Mountain and if I am not allowed to sit in the front, I 'do' throw a large tantrum. It's true, just ask her. On our last trip, when I wasn't allowed to sit in the front you should have seen the picture. I looked so bored, and it was true. We love the mountains but even enjoy the little things about Disney. We love just being there. We can sit on the corner and people watch and still have a wonderful time. Call us crazy, but remember were from Florida! :rotfl:

Stephanie never been to MGM or Animal Kingdom, so this will be her first. I am so excited to introduce her to my favorite, Animal Kingdom. We are both animal lovers so we will have a good time. Just three weeks ago, we seen the Flowers at EPCOT. We are even more excited to see them again. They are wonderful and very romantic. So, we are hoping to have another good time and this time were onsite. Maybe we will get an offical dreams, maybe not - but I dont care because just being there with her is my dream come true!

You have asked the right question to an obsessive planner. Since I've got mine going already I can work on your plan. It is easier since you don't have dining arrangements. You really have to plan in advance if you are going to eat at the castle in Oct, you have to know now.

In general, you will want to avoid the park with EMH. This comes from personal experience and advice on DIS. The EMH park with morning hours is awesome for that early hour but will be swamped by noon. If you choose to do EMH, I suggest park hopping.

If I've got the dates right you will be touring on Fri, Sat, and Sun. I would probably stick to MK, AK and MGM. Save EPCOT for when you have more time. After all, I'm sure this won't be your last trip, right?

Spectromagic parade is only on the 5th and 7th. This is a romantic parade IMHO. I remember seeing it with my hubby on our first anniversary:hug: If you avoid EMH then your possiblilites with operating hours are as follows:

Fri 5th AK 9-6pm

Sat 6th MGM 9-8:30pm

Sun 7th MK Spectro/Wishes 9-10pm

I would do this and then if I was done with AK on Fri, say, and still wanting to tour, then hop on over to MGM for their EMH. After all, since you are elligible for EMH you might as well take advantage of them and check it out for yourself. Save your arrival/departure days for other fun stuff like water parks, etc.

My DH and I met/married while at college in Florida so this thread has really brought back some memories. We had the resident passes and took lots of mini-trips. We celebrated our 15 year anniversary this year. Woah! I just gave away my age:scared1: O, well.

Keep the plans coming and congratulations! Don't stress about trying to do it all! Have about 3 things each per day that you "must do" and make sure you get those done. Part of the magic at Disney is doing something new or something you haven't done in a while.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me. It is greatly appeciated.

If I've got the dates right you will be touring on Fri, Sat, and Sun.

Actually. We will be touring on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We would like to have one of those days (perhaps Saturday or Sunday) be a rest day. We will take this time to go to the pool and go to Downtown Disney. We are leaving at park closing on Monday (May 7, 2007). We were thinking since MGM has evening hours, we would just go there in the evening and leave to head back when ready.

I would probably stick to MK, AK and MGM.

Remember, we are not first time visiters. I have been to all the parks before just didn't stay onsite or more than one day. Stephanie has never been to MGM or AK. We wanted to try and hit all the parks. Over the course of the past two hours, I tried to make a schedule. It is posted below.

Spectromagic parade is only on the 5th and 7th. This is a romantic parade IMHO.

We seen this together twice, and it is indeed romantic. We like waiting right after for Wishes, which is also romantic. We are going to make these a must, once again!

Well I appreciate your decision to try and help me. I am glad you are touched by our story. We hope to charish all these memories and hopefully have children to bring back to the world and enjoy with someday.

Below is the schedule I came up with... It is not really detailed but it is just a draft. Thanks for your time to review my plans.

Thursday, May 3 - Daytona Beach departure at 11:00 AM. Drive to Orlando. Once in the area, stop at the store and grab some items. Mainly water and snacks. Arrive at the resort shortly after. Check in. While we are waiting for the room we will change and go to the pool and walk around the resort. After getting into the room, I will give Stephanie time to relax. Later, we will go to Downtown Disney and just check it out. We will make it a must to get to bed early. Did I mention, we plan to eat somewhere healthy at Downtown Disney. Any suggestions? :confused3 We also want to set a wake up call. How do we go about doing this?

Friday, May 4 - Wake up early. Get to the park, well before opening. Today, we will be at EPCOT. In the morning, hit future world. We would try to get on as many attractions as possible before 12 to 1 ish. At this time, we will go back to Soarin' and get a fastpass for when we return in the evening. Go back to the resort. I will hit the pool as Stephanie rests, which she plans to do (so she says). I will go and wake her up in time to go to the resort cafe. We will have something to eat. In the evening we will head back to EPCOT. We are thinking of getting there at 6:00. We will find out where to get a wristband for evening magic hours. We will first walk through World Showcase and find a good spot for Illuminations. We never seen this so want to get a good seat. Any Suggestions? :confused3 After this we will do more of World Showcase and Future World until we are ready to leave.

Saturday, May 5 - Sleep in after a long day at EPCOT. We will take this day to rest, relax, and enjoy. We will wake up and explore the other All Star resorts. Stephanie wanted to stay at All Star Music, but it was full. She is a huge fan of music. We will also go to Downtown Disney. We also want to hit the Poly. This time next year, we plan on having a honeymoon. We are very intrested in doing this at Poly. Therefore, we want to check the resort out. We might do this in the evening to watch Wishes from the beach. I heard it is lovely and romantic from this spot.

Sunday, May 6 - Wake up early. Get to Magic Kingdom well before opening. We would love to open the park. However, we have no children. Therefore, we doubt we would get picked. :sad1: We will still have fun. When it opens, we will basically take it easy. Because we will be back in the evening. We just love the opening atmosphere and watching other families running with their children. Man, I really want some kids! :rotfl: Well, I can say that know! haha! We will leave at 12:00 ish because of crowds. We will go back to the resort. We will rest, relax, and enjoy. In the evening we will eat at the resort cafe before going to Magic Kingdom. We will watch Spectro and Wishes. This is where I have encountered a problem.

The Disney website listed the Magic Kingdom as closing at 9 on this day. However, the WDWINFO calendar has Spectro at 9 and Wishes at 10. So I am confused. Does it really close at 9? :confused3 The evening hours let us stay three after after parks offical closing. But when is the offical closing?

Monday, May 7 - Wake up early. Get everything together and put it in Stephanie's car. Check out really early, if possible. Drive to Animal Kingdom for extra magic hours. Stay there until about 3:00 ish. Then drive to MGM and stay there for the rest of the day. Get wrist band for evening magic hours. Stay until whenever. Drive home.

I got out of class early. Today we had our final exam in 'Teaching Elementary School Science.' Doesn't that class sound rather easy? :confused3 Well, don't let the title fool you. It isn't.:sad2: That class has been a struggle for me all semester and I am glad it is finally over. Our exam was a lengthy test which featured nearly twenty-eight essay questions. So, yeah. :surfweb: I am now rather exhaused.

Stephanie is still in clinicals and will be out rather soon. Today was her final day in cinicals this semester and will be given her grade today. Tomorrow, Stephanie has her last nursing test before her big exam. She is really stressing and I can certainly understand why. However, both of our schooling will pay off in due time. Right? :rolleyes1

so, now I am sitting her waiting or Stephanie to get home. I am so happy she put me in charge of planning; however, I certainly feel the pressure. There is a lot of hardwork that goes into planning these trips. I am just thankful I didn't have to do any ADR's this time around, like we will on our next trip. :headache: Stephanie just goes with the flow, so she will agree on any and all decisions I make - just as long as she gets time to rest. I also understand this because school has been hard on us this semester. :teacher: Did I mention the day after our last finals is when we are departing. Talk about a needed vacation!

I just got off the phone with the resort and asked if there was any opening at POP or All Star Music during our time. There is not. We were wondering because those are the two resorts we really wanted and didn't mind transfering. The lady told me to call back daily; however, I decided to stick it out at All Star Sports. I love and enjoy sports so it won't be so bad. When I was on the phone, I asked about requests. I wanted to request a specific building, specific floor, and a non-smoking room; however, they told me to call back five days before the trip. They told me this before, but I wanted to try again! :rotfl:

So, that is the updated so far. Has anyone taken a lot at our 'unoffical' plan? What do you think?

Hi there! I got your PM and headed on over...
I think you guys will have a terrific time, no matter what!

But, I'll pass whatever advice I can along :thumbsup2

As for determining park days, I use the Unoffical Guide's website. The Crowd Calendar there tells you which are the best and worst parks to visit on any given day, based on crowd levels. Since I go a few times a year, I pay to subscribe so I can access that chart for the whole year. Best $8 I've spent on WDW!

However, I can tell you from my own experience that traveling without kids means you can do so much less planning and have a great time! Before my DS came along, we rarely, if ever, planned our parks ahead of time. You've got the park-hopper tickets so if the park you're in starts feeling too congested, just jump on over to another!

Speaking of tickets... will you guys likely do some more WDW trips in the following 365 days? If so, I'd seriously look into the FL Resident Annual Pass and FL Resident Seasonal Annual Pass. Might save you some money!:thumbsup2

As for food, I recommend checking out the menus on allearsnet.com. Again, you guys can wing it as far as making dining choices when you get there, but it might help to know ahead what looks good.

Thanks for all of your help. It is greatly appreciated. I will consider purchasing the unoffical guide. We go to the park a lot and have never purchased the annual or seasonal tickets. Perhaps we should really consider it since we go there a lot and are spending a lot of money on tickets.

The only reason why I am planning is because I am that type of person. I am a control freak, ocd type person when it comes to these things. It kinda has to be my way haha! I am trying to get over it, but I am to attached to Disney.

Thanks again!

Actually. We will be touring on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Shucks! I almost had it.

We might do this in the evening to watch Wishes from the beach. I heard it is lovely and romantic from this spot.

I've heard this, too. Let me know how it works out.

Does it really close at 9? :confused3 The evening hours let us stay three after after parks offical closing. But when is the offical closing?

My calendar has the park hours from 9-9; Dreams Parade at 3 and Wishes at 9 (no spectro). Then EMH from 9-12

Excellent suggestions. I, too, check out the crowd calendar online. I love the Unofficial Guide (online and book). Even for experienced Disney go-ers you will find something that you didn't know. I got it when we were planning our first trip with kids and was surprised at some of the things I didn't know.

We used to have the FL Resident seasonal pass and found it was an excellent value. The "blackout" times were times that were so crowded anyway that we didn't want to go then. It is cheaper when you renew as well. Or, at least it used to be.

Thanks for your input. I will add some more information later this afternoon. I have some school work to catch up on in the mean time ;)

Stephanie and I just got back from Walmart! :rotfl: Yes, it is 1:02 in the morning here in Florida and what better thing to do than to go shopping for our upcoming trip! We went to Walmart mainly for fun; however, we ended up making a few purchases. Today was a decent day - except at dinner, Stephanie had a huge argument with her mother and basically the dinner ended in horror. Yes, horror! Stephanie through her silverware on the table and stormed out the door. It was a rather silly argument. It was over the fact that Stephanie can be so 'negative' at times. Before this trip, Stephanie and I spent two hours on the beach. I really liked this because it allowed me some time to lay in the sun. I am very pale - which is odd flor living in Florida. After an hour and a half, I am now rather red! haha! I am hopping to get a tan while at Disney. Will my plan actually work? Will I get a tan? Well, that is another installment for another report.

At Walmart, we got some basic items. Stephanie wanted and begged to bring her own soap, shampoo, and the other such bathing items. She purchased those. After, she spent a good hour looking at clothes. After a long hour she settled on one outfit. It took me nearly three minutes to pick the outfit I wanted and the sandles to go along with them. I am totally into the flip flop stage. Especially in the heat. I own several, even Mickey ones and I plan on taking them all with me. Oh, did I tell you the story that led to me getting the Mickey flip flops? Well, here let me tell you.

At Disney, I was wearing my favorite tan flip flops. I got them from a previous Universal trip (I guess it serves me right, wearing them in the wrong terrority! haha). Anyway, people kept stepping on the healks the whole time. I was so upset. Then later in the day, when we were approaching Space Mountain, Stephanie stepped on the back of my flop and it totally came unattached. There I stood, with one shoe on and another shoe gone! I looked like a dork and was rather upset. After looking rather unhuman with only one shoe when I approached the ride - I got several looks. After the ride, I purchased the Mickey ones in the store following the ride. I do, love them. But I truly miss my old favorite tan ones... :sad2:

Okay, well back to the report. On our way home, I got to taking to Stephanie about two important things. I talked to her about the possibility of a character meal. She didn't like this idea, but she doesn't see the point in eating with characters. I guess she doesn't have that Disney magic that I thought she had! What am I gonna do with her! :confused3 The next order of business was talking to her about adding an extra day. She didn't like this, but I am really considering it. What is the point in driving home at 1 AM when we could stay an extra night and leave around 11 AM that day with a full rest. I don't know...

Anyway, I am calling the resort tomorrow and requesting the third floor, nonsmoking room. Stephanie does not care what building we sleep in, but I am trying to find the best. I am doing all I can by searching the DIS. Hopefully, I figure it out soon.

I think it is about time for an update! Today was a good day. Stephanie and I went out to lunch then went to Books-A-Million. There, she studied for her upcoming exam in theory. While she was studying, I was reading some of the many Walt Disney World books that were there. In the bookstore, I remembered that I am now within the five-day period; therefore, I could call and make room requests. Therefore, I called.

I called All Star Sports and got a very unmagical castmember. :rolleyes1 Instead of fusing, I simply told her I was no longer intrested and called a different number. Bingo! Perfect solution. :cloud9: I went from getting the most unfriendly castmember to one of the most magical. I forgot his name but he had a rather catchy pick up line. He answered the phone by saying, "Hope your having a Zippidy Doo Dah day. My name is ----." I was very impressed. He was the perfect castmember in my eyes. I made several requests. One of these was a non-smoking room. Stephanie was upset. Stephanie does have that habit! :scared1: But by me getting this room, she would have to go outside. I am sorry, I am on vacation and would rather not sleep in a room filled with smoke. Even if she is the bride to be :bride: . The next request was the building. We requested a room in either building 1 or 6. Both of these buildings are dedicated to 'surfing.' Neither of us surf; however, it is close to everything, including the pool. We also asked to have a room on the third floor if at all possible.

At Walmart tonight, I purchased several batteries. We would need these for the new keychain fans that I also purchased. It is going to be hot (www.weather.com), so these would come in rather handy. I also got some packages of wet ones, the wipes. I like these especially on hot and humid days - they really cool me off and make me feel especially clean! :cool2:

We are both counting down the days. It seems like it is so close but then again so far away. At Walmart, I was going to purchase a plastic seal to hold the tickets, room key, etc.. However, Stephanie told me it was a waste because they will give us one. I have never heard it before, but I agreed. :headache: I didn't want to get hit over the head again for making a 'nonsense' purchase.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention this... I added anotehr day. We will not be checking out until Tuesday May 8, 2007 now. This will give us time after MGM extra magic hours to come back and rest before we leave the following day. Stephanie was not happy; however, I would like to get home safely in one piece! ;) So I felt it was important to do this.

I have begun packing. I also bought some new outfits and a new suit for swimming, I am ready. However, Stephanie has refused to begin backing until Wednesday! Yes! The day before we leave - is she nuts? Maybe, but remember I am 'marrying' her! haha. On Wednesday, I will go over and help her get everything ready because I am a man on a mission, with a schedule. There is no time to waste!

Let the packing begin!

Okay, I forgot to post some pictures. I haven't done much, but at least I got started. ;) Now, Stephanie really needs to at least get her stuff together. :rolleyes1

It's getting closer and closer and we are both so excited! :goodvibes I think I am going to be adding stuff onto our trip. Especially the Fort Wilderness Camp Fire, I never heard of this and we are considering it. I am looking for more information about this. Such as, how to get there. I already found this information...

Meadow Trading Post. Movie begins approximately 7:40pm. A Disney classic movie follows the sing-along. Chip and Dale usually make an appearance. The Fort Wilderness staff will provide a campfire; bring your marshmallows, hot dogs and sticks if you have them. If not, marshmallows and sticks are available for purchase at $2 for 2 sticks and plenty of marshmallows; $5 for a s'more kit. The movie shown is different each night of the week. In the event of inclement weather, a "Porch Jam" sing-a-long will take place at the Ol' Meadow Swimmin' Hole. Movie & Sing-a-Long free of charge. Note: All movies & characters are outside! Campfire Show is held nightly if weather permits.

Our problem is how to get there. Tell me if I am right...

Leave early evening, around 5:30 or 6:00 and get on the Magic Kingdom bus. Go to Magic Kingdom and find the boat that takes us to Fort Wilderness (what boat - the ferry?). Find where to go (can anyone help me from here)?

I am still in need of some help and answers! ;) I am trying to get everything ready to go. Today, I spent a lot of time on the DIS after I arrived home from my final day of spring semester. I received an A in all my six courses. I worked hard and I am happy it paid off. Stephanie has her final nursing exams tomorrow and Wednesday. She has asked that you please pray for her. Nursing has been very stressful for her this semester and has even made her reconsider the profession. :wizard: So, if you could please help us with this stuation - it would be greatly appreciated. As you can see this vacation is needed for the both of us. Even though today was my last day of classes, did I mention I have to go to school tomorrow? :rotfl: Well, I have to pick up my books for the four summer classes I am taking! Yes, the week I return from our vacation - I begin summer classes! :sad2: It sucks, but it has to be done. Soon - I will become an teacher, so my hardwork will pay off. :teacher:

Okay, I went and got some LGMH's today. Well, there not so LG!
:confused3 They didn't have any so I go the next best think - SBMH (Sonic Boom Mickey Heads :rotfl: ). These will just have to work. I plan on decorating the door and window of our room. Packing, is going very well. Stephanie called me this morning and said she is done. Wow, this is someone who said they would do it at the last minute! My jaw dropped. She is finished? How can she be if I am not?! I am in awe, I guess she is really excited afterall. Tomorrow is the day I will get everything ready and together. I am getting to excited.

Soon, this pre-trip report will become nothing more. Soon, I will be opening an offical report! I am super excited. But still in need of some answers! :woohoo:

Sorry I missed your last few entries so I had no advice to give. You should be back by now and I look forward to hearing how everything went. When you get to writing your report, will you link to it from here?
