I've only sold two items on Ebay and have two more listed. I'm pretty sure I listed the item too low. Ebay didn't give me the option of setting a reserve or do a "Buy it Now". I really don't want to let the item go for the minimum price I set (there's only one bid at that price and only one day left). My dfi says people won't be to kind to me if I pull an item and then relist it with a higher minimum.

Why wasn't I able to set a reserve or do a "Buy it Now"?

create a shell account under another name and bid you item up to what you want it to be..then if someone else bids against you then you will get what you want for that item. if not you can try to re-sell it again if you when under your shell account.

Do you have any feedback on ebay? I think that you have to have feedback of at least 10 to do a buy it now. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to do the reserve though.
Hopefully you will get lucky and get a few more bids to up your price. If you do decide to cancel the auction make sure to cancel the bid that is on it before canceling. Once there is less than 12 hours left you will not be able to cancel it.

Doesn't Ebay frown upon that?

Definately don't do any shill bidding.

I just checked on ebay and to do a buy it now you must
"Requirements: You must have a feedback rating of 10 or more (or be ID Verified) to list your item in a Fixed Price listing with a quantity of one"

There are no restrictions for reserve price auctions. You should be able to cancel the auction and relist with a reserve price.

How much is to low? You think you priced it at $5.00 but you should sell it for $10.00 or you priced it at $5.00 and it is worth $100 dollars? I think it all depends on how much you stand to lose and if it's worth it.

For $10 or so there is no way I would pull it and risk negative feedback.

How much time is left on the auction? Does it have bids? If it is more than 12 hours, and it has no bids, you can raise the starting bid.

If it does have bids, cancel the bids and then cancel the auction and relist with the price you want. No one can leave you negative feedback if the auction is not completed.

The people that were bidding on your auction may get upset if you cancel. So what? If they still want your item, they'll pay the higher price. If they don't want to pay the higher price, there are millions of other potential bidders out there.

If no one wins the auction, there is no negative FB. I would cancel all the bids and end the auction early if you think you are going to lose a boatload of money. If you're only losing a few bucks, I would wait for the swoopers at the end of an auction. You might have a lot of people interested who are not yet bidding. Next time set your minimum at your true minimum until you get the number of FBs to allow you to set a buy-it-now and a reserve.

Yes they do.
"Shill" bidding is a big "no-no" at eBay. If you are suspected of "shilling" your listings, people will often stop bidding on your items and may report you to eBay. See Shill Bidding Policy

As for what to do... Your dfi is correct that ending early and re-listing will also tick some people off.

The item used goes for about $250 (over $300 new) or maybe more but I set the minimum bid at $150. There is only one bid so far and as of right now 1d 13h left on the auction and still only one bid.

Do you have many watchers? I have found that many people do not bid until the very last minute trying to get the best deal, and usually if it is something highly desired, it bids up very quickly.

Most people bid in the last ten minutes of the auction - and true snipers will bid in the last sixty seconds.

You can't add a reserve after the item has received bids - you can cancel the bid and set a reserve or raise the minimum bid. Or you can cancel the bid and relist the auction.

Or you can hang in there and hope for some snipers to come along.

Have you checked completed auctions for this item? Are they selling on Ebay for $250? Ebay is a buyer's market at the moment. Has been for a long time actually. If you cancel and relist, it may not sell at all.

I checked and there are several other identical items and the bids are all over the place.

This item was part of another package (it's a camera lens) and the package price of the lens is about $200 (iwhen sold separately as new it sells for over $300). I would be ok with $200. I think I might just wait a little longer. I've got 4 people watching it.

:sad2: This is lower than low. If sellers are doing, which is something I have thought has happened on auctions I have bid on, it is just plain wrong.

Well, the item sold for a little more than my starting bid but about $30-50 less than I had anticipated. I have another item list which I think is also too low. I may cancel that one (no bids yet) and restart it with a higher starting price.

It doesn't sound like you have much feedback built up yet?
It is really hard to sell higher priced (over $100) items with a low total feedback number. This is especially true in something like electronics or camera equipment, which is prime counterfeit territory.

I'd suggest finding some old clothes or junk around the house and running about 20 $1.99 auctions - and buy a few things too. Then list the higher dollar stuff.
