with the closing of GMR and UOE on the same day, is that the end of the traveling theater rides?

I can't think of another at this point.

It was time.

I think you're right.

I remember being so impressed by them when I rode UOE in Epcot's opening year.

I hope Disney reconsiders.

The traveling ride theaters are high capacity guest attractions and can absorb a high number of guests; GMR can do about 2200 an hour at peak [better than TOT=1800, ST=1600, or RNRC=1600].

The replacement attractions will likely have much lower capacities; typical of roller coasters. Longer lines are on the way, so I'm not sure there's much to celebrate. I don't recall hearing guests say 'I want to wait in longer lines' or 'I want fewer options.' It would be better if Disney created new attractions and kept the old ones also; it would help with crowds to improve guest experiences, there is plenty of room on property for expansion, and Disney can afford it.

It really doesn't matter at this point. It's done. UoE is probably the most neglected corner of any WDW Park. It needed to go. Not thrilled about GotG theme, but it is what it is. Maybe revitalizing that corner will give them the stones to do something constructive with WoL. As for GMR... I'm unhappy. I liked the ride. I liked what it stood for. I liked how it was designed. But things change. In this case, I'm hoping not for the worse and that the new Mickey ride will be a good one, not Winnie the Pooh for Mr. Toad's. We will see. But crying over it isn't going to change what's going to happen. By 2020, DHS will be a much more solid park. A Mickey ride, if done well, will be a big draw. It also is a unique ride to only DHS, but also exportable. So if it is a hit, it's possible DHS will be able to "sell" the concept to another park and help offset another addition.

YEa UoE needed something done with it. They should have at least updated the videos mroe frequently as they were estremely dated as well. I don't think the ride system really worked for it either. That was the big issue to me. The ride was 45 minutes long but seemed like a good chunk of that was just sitting around waiting for the vehicles to proceed to the next spot, not actually seeing anything so it was really dull on top of that.
GMR was a much better ride but was jsut suffering from a dated feel now as well, and the new directino of the park it didn't fully fit anymore either. However I wouldn't have minded seeing it jsut get upgraded in some manner but keep the ride similar. Either go through Disney movies in general or do a Mickey ride but do Mickey Mouse through the years kind of. However, I think a more immersive ride is what will draw people more. And as stated above it doens't matter if these rides can pull a lot of people through if they aren't getting ridden. I usually see a small line at GMR but often see cars going that arent full unless it's a busy day. And UoE is usualy pretty empty.

That's probably true for UoE, but not so much for GMR. At least I've never seen a car at GMR leave empty.

I think because of operational capacity. Last few years we have entered to see only half the loading stations being used to fill a single "train" and we have sat in the montage room with empty "trains" (I guess they were just parked there). Rather than send half empty trains and needing double the CMs for them, we noticed they have been filling trains and using less.
