I've heard about it, but I don't actually know what it is.. and since the official wdw site (www.waltdisneyworld.com) freezes up my browser on a regular basis, i've not been able to get into it to find out... anyone help?

It's a nice little show in Adventureland in the MK. It's under new management w/ Zazu from the Lion King and Iago from Aladdin. It's a cute show where birds sing and put on a somewhat funny and entertaining show, lots of singing. it will get you in a good mood, make you sing for the rest of the day, and get you moving...

Get on your feet......

Tikki Room is an animated show using birds. We normally go every time. It's pretty cute. Tikki Room is located near PotC and Jungle Cruise.

First of all remember it was created in the 60s.....Its a twee little show where animatronic parrots, other birdies, tiki poles and flowers sing-oh and you get a little tropical rainstorm-don't worry you don't get wet-its a sweet little show, for some reason little kids don't seem to like it, but its air conditioned, you get a sit down and its cool and dark. You should check it out, if only to hear the second most annoying song at WDW (after IASW,what else?)

I agreee. It was fun for my 3yo. I liked it because it was place to sit and cool off for a short break. There was no line when we went and my DH and 2DS were on Splash MT so I took my 3yo and passed some time. It was a nice break.

A few more facts.

The Enchanted Tiki Room was the very first AudioAnimatronics attraction ever built.

Walt Disney himself had earlier designed and crafted a small mechanical dancing man puppet theater, but it was too complex to build full-scale.

So, Walt and his Imagineeers came up with the idea of building mechanical BIRDS as they are simpler to design and operate.
Mechanical birds had been built for many generations by European and Asian craftsmen with "clock-work" mechanisms, but the new AudioAnimatronic Disney design was truly "cutting-edge technology" at that time (early 1960's).

Disney's staff wrote a whole musical show around their new bird designs, and the Tiki Room presentation was born.

They set it all up in one of the Disney (movie) Studios and (after adding a lot of additional special effects that rounded-out simple bird-stars) they built the final showcase for the attraction at Disneyland, set everything up inside it and the show debuted in 1963 (wow!)
The Enchanted Tiki Room was a HUGE success with guests for many years.
And, naturally, when WDW's MK was built, another Tiki Room was included in the plans.

But, as with anything based on "cutting-edge technology"... the Tiki Room was soon upstaged by newer, more complex and amazing animatronic attractions.
The songs chosen for the show were becoming too out-dated ("Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing", even in 1963, was not exactly the "pop anthem of a new generation").

The simple ideas of "birds twittering" and audience "sing-along" songs became "quaint" and SLOW as audiences became more accustomed to bigger "thrills" at other newer attractions.

The Tiki Room inhabitants were playing to fewer and fewer folks in the seats below.
And many times I was witness to a "mass exodus" of folks just getting up mid-show and finding the exit.

So the Imagineers decided it might help matters to "update" the show by adding "name" characters (from recent films) and by making music choices that had an appeal to the audiences that were currently Disney's guests.

And I personally applaud this "new" version of the show.
The writers clearly had a love and respect for the original version (as there many references to it, and actual LINES from the original still included.)

I will also say that since the new "Under New Management" show began, I have seen far fewer guests get up and "walk out" during the show than I had been seeing for many years prior to the update.

There are some who don't like the new version of the show and want it restored to the original version.
And I do think that old show was like a "peek into the past" (with Walt and his crew), but I think the way it was headed... playing to fewer and fewer guests... it would simply have been REMOVED... and that would have been a far worse crime, IMHO.

I'm one of those who prefer the older version, and it's not just a reflection of my age. DD, who is 22, also misses the Tiki Room of her younger years. We were there last month, on what was a very busy day elsewhere in the park, and when we went in, the room was barely half full. None the less, I'd hate to see it disappear entirely. Too many of the originals are already gone. :sad2:

I love the Tiki Room. It's not exactly the most modern thing around, but there's one thing it isn't that I love - it isn't a MOTION SIMULATOR! :teeth:

I have to admit, I prefer the original Tiki Room too...not sure why exactly.

I think Zazu and Iago are a little irritating (does Gilbert Gotfried ever talk without YELLING???) but I still love the animatronics and the classic Tiki room song!

It is definitely a must see...at least once!

I'm still sort of undecided whether the imagineers were making a statement about Corporate Disney in some sort of skeptical fashion with this show or they genuinely thought it was a good thing.

The totally annoying pre-show starts with Iago and Zazu, two different birds totally incongruous with each other and indeed incongruous with their own character are portrayed as two, wannabe plastic money grubbing social climbers arguing about who's agent got whom the better deal. Reminds me of my two neighbors. Jones and Smith, always trying to one up each other with a better car, boat, motorhome, or barbeque.

Once inside the tiki room intro starts and Iago doesn't waste any time tellimg em he's changing the show because they gotta get hip, they gotta do Rock N Roll, rap, and punk etc. Trouble is, none of these are supplied in any true up to date form whatsoever. It's almost like when Bill Clinton gets hip because he needs the urban vote and starts playing Fleetwood Mac. The old birds learn some new "hip" songs. Of course that the material is iitself now about 20 years old is irrelavant I suppose. Wait a minute, did I hear Miami Sound Machine in there somewhere? So we rip apart a classic that lasted over 30 years and replace it with one already past its prime the moment it opened. All with the purpose to supposedly attract today's hip and edgy crowds and the result being about as hip and edgy as a playground ball.

It shows. We went on a hot Saturday afternoon with waits over an hour at all three mountains plus Dumbo, Pooh, and Peter Pan. Even Jungle snooze was 30 minutes that day. This thing was walk in and about 15 people showed up for the show. You won't see many walking out because the show is shorter than the original. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised at that development. The show needed some work. Foreign accent gags just aren't funny and don't cut it any more. Neither do birds that simply open their beaks when they sing and soundtracks that sound like they are in mono. But this wasn't the way to go about it.

Huh? Unless my memory is failing me (always a possibility :rotfl2: ) the 'pre-show' is two agent birds (Phil Hartman & Don Rickles ???) discussing the financial aspects that agents deal with about their "stars", Iago and Zazu and the new show they are in....

I love the old TR, I love the new TR, and I'm in the "IASW would be better if each rider got 3 softballs" group.

It is actually the THIRD most annoying song! :rotfl2: Can't forget "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow"! With that song playing just as often as in the ride as IASW, the thing is stuck in your head for AT LEAST a week! :lmao:

We only experienced it once back in 99. We did not care for it. Is the volume to this attraction always so darn loud? People were walking out in the middle of the attraction. Those that stayed, most covered their ears.
