"ENCHANTED TALES with ROB" - A Birthday/Christmas DISer Celebration! **NEW TR LINK**

Awesome job on the Canadia magic band! It's awesome!

That mall looks really cool, but I love all the Disney World comparisons. A Disney store outlet??? I want to go!

Glad the rain held off. Toronto zoo is very high on my list of places to visit!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

Thanks Wendy. I knew everyone on here would understand how special that design is to me.

The Mall itself wasn't much until you put on the Disney goggles. Then it truly shines. I know!!! I so miss having a Disney Store here. :(

Oh me too. Not one drop of rain. Toronto Zoo is up next!

Great idea for the MB. It turned out awesome!

The maple leaf on the McDonalds is cool. When I was up there years ago I never noticed. Obviously we don't see many maple leaves on things here in NC. That is, unless I am hunting down my beer of choice...Molson Canadian.

Don't you just love how you can find "Disneyness" everywhere? I think I like that word! :lmao: I was waiting to see Big Al in the Bass Pro Shop pictures with his jug sitting beside him. :rotfl:

I had no idea they had store openings like that at Disney stores. We had one here for years but, they closed it a couple of years ago. Now I have to trek 1 1/2 hours away to Concord, NC to go. Good thing one of my kids lives there. :goodvibes The dolls for $6.66? :rotfl2:

The zoo looks like fun. Can't wait to hear all about it!

Thank you so much. I love it!!!

You know it's funny, but I never really paid much attention to that until it was pointed out. Mmmmm... Beer.

I sure do. I honestly see it everywhere. OMG if I saw Big Al I would have died. I did see some relatives though.

I didn't either but I absolutely loved it!! It was just perfect. Yeah, our's closed years ago as well. I so miss it. I have none in driving distance anymore. So sad. And yup, that's the price they should be.

It was and that's coming up... now.

"DON'T CRY BECAUSE IT'S OVER, SMILE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED"
A Very Merry Intermission - July 20, 2014 Part 2

We had just arrived at the zoo and, after a quick picture of the princess and her new feathered friend,

24.jpg

Our decided first stop was the Pandas, so we immediately headed in that direction.

25.jpg

But there was also a Splash Pad nearby which Hailey needed to visit, so Carrie took her while we waited.

25b.jpg

They were only in there for a few minutes, enough time to cool off a bit, so before long we continued on.

26.jpg

27.jpg

Of course they spelled Canadia wrong.

28.jpg

It should come as no surprise though, that when we arrived we were greeted with this…

30.jpg

31.jpg

They’re still cute though… just really really boring.

We continued on through, apparently, Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

32.jpg

I swear I expected to see a sea of white birds in those trees.

They don't just have live animals in the Toronto Zoo, they also have dead ones in the form of a giant skinless whale.

34.jpg

35.jpg

It was around this time that poor little Hailey started to not feel well.
Ultimately, her dad ended up taking her to rest and cool off, while Carrie, Ry, and I continued on.

We saw a playful Polar Bear

36.jpg

37.jpg

38.jpg

39.jpg

Ry found her fav turtles…

41.jpg

42.jpg

More Disney’s Animal Kingdom…

43.jpg

And mesmerizing Jelly Fish.

44.jpg

45.jpg

46.jpg

And since I know Carrie would be angry if I didn’t include this, and to prove I can laugh at myself, here goes.

We saw some frogs, one of which amusingly appeared to be praying.
I noticed the nearby sign and, without reading any further, declared the reason for the praying was quite obvious…

They were Dying Frogs.

As in… That is what I though the name of this particular species of frog was... Tree Frog… Dying Frog.

46a.jpg

It was only after reading further that I realized that “Dying Frogs” was a descriptive title, and not, in fact, the name of this particular species.

So yeah... I'm an idiot.

Our next destination was looking to be the Africa Savanna and, much more importantly, the Canadia Domain.

48.jpg

And en route, we even saw a mouse.

"DON'T CRY BECAUSE IT'S OVER, SMILE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED"
A Very Merry Intermission - July 20, 2014 Part 2 Continued

Still making my rounds at the Toronto Zoo with Riley and Carrie,
I was quite surprised to see penguins... From South Africa.

50.jpg

51.jpg

52.jpg

53.jpg

We caught a glimpse of the zebras…

55.jpg

And the Rhinos were being lazy.

57.jpg

Amusing to me, they even had a garden at the Zoo.

58.jpg

Living with the Land I guess.

Then, we arrived at the Hippo enclosure, and were greeted with pretty much the same hippo action enjoyed by millions at Animal Kingdom.

59.jpg

But then… He moved…

60.jpg

He actually stood up and MOVED!!!

62.jpg

63.jpg

65.jpg

66.jpg

Honestly, I thought it was pretty cool... But then I'm easily entertained.

And then, my favsies.

67.jpg

And my fav animal giraffes with a baby!!

68.jpg

69.jpg

70.jpg

I promise… we really were happy…

72.jpg

The final building we visited before meeting back up with Hailey and Ivan contained this speedy fellow,

73.jpg

But we ended up spending much more time watching these guys, as they were endlessly entertaining.

74.jpg

76.jpg

We met back up with Hailey and Ivan, so we backtracked a little so Hailey could see the giraffes as well.

79.jpg

Before moving on to see the Tigers,

80.jpg

And the Llama parade.

81.jpg

And finally, before leaving the Zoo behind, we saw one final animal which I genuinely have never seen before…

A black squirrel.

83.jpg

TO BE CONTINUED…

Hey, I'm sure those poor Pandas were just hot and wanted to show off their sleeping skills.

Aww poor Hailey not feeling well :( I'm glad she got better though.

I totally believed for a minute that they were actually called Dying Frogs and I was like, well that's a terrible name. Oops.

Gaaasp the hippo moved!

You look really happy. It's probably just the heat. Or that you two are too cool for smiles ;)

Those two girls at the bottom left corner of the lama parade are looking really judgmental. I almost feel like they're judging me.

Canadians and your lack of black squirrels. In Michigan there are red, brown and black and Marie and I took a walk once and she too stopped to take a picture of the black squirrel and was like amazed by it. I guess I never realized they were rare?

Darn lazy pandas. ;) They are really cuddly looking though.

Maybe it's just me but, I find the whale bones disturbing. Things in the zoo should be alive! :confused3

I wonder if they feed the vegetables to the animals. That could explain the LWTL exhibit.

Those jelly fish are beautiful. Of course this could be due to the fact that they are in a tank and not stinging me! :rotfl:

Poor Hailey...glad she got to feeling better!

Woo hoo, caught up. One time I was at the Falls with some people from work that I was traveling with, and we did the Behind the Falls tour. At the time, the Unabomber was on the run and the only "picture" of him was a police sketch of him in a hooded sweatshirt and dark glasses. So anyway, we'd just received our plastic "rain capes" and were riding down in those elevators when one of my traveling companions says, "Hey Glenn, I'm the Unabomber"...and I turn around and burst out laughing because he's got his rain cape on with the hood up, and some sunglasses on and, well, maybe you had to be there, but trust me, it was funny.

The Horseshoe Falls are definitely better, but the American side has a really nice park and trails. I've only been to the park once, but was pleasantly surprised.

Great update, Rob! I mean, Canadian pandas? Moving hippos? Llama parades? Gotta be one of the better zoo visits I've read about!

Thanks for the Disney-fied tour of the mall, though saddened to see Robin Sparkles was not performing.

And congrats on making it in time for the welcome show and rope drop.

So, good to know that Canadian Panda Bears are boring ... I bet Canadia ones would be much more exciting ... And perhaps play the banjo or an empty jug.

Sorry to hear Hailey wasn't feeling well, hope it wasn't too bad.

Wow, a Hippo in action!

Glad you enjoyed your time at the zoo!

What a great day thus far!!! (aside from Hailey not feeling well of course :sad1:) I do the same thing ALL the time - you can make anything relatable to Disney, right? My family/friends probably grow sick of me saying "oh this reminds me of X at Disney, that looks like Y at Disney!" and so on. You can seriously tie anything back to Disney! ;) But that's another great reason we all bond here on the Dis - we get it! So I very much appreciate your odes to Disney throughout your trip to parts of Canadia!!! :goodvibes

I just want to say thanks to everyone for their concerns about Hailey, she tends to over heat quickly .She did have a petit mal seizure, she has them often and thankfully we know just what to do when that happens.

Now, are the pandas giant or is the experience giant? ;)

Aw man, I wish they were a little more exciting. Have you ever been to San Diego? We saw pandas at the zoo there and they were AWESOME but I guess it just depends on when you see them :confused3

Poor Hailey :( glad she recovered quickly, though!

OH MY GOD. THAT POLAR BEAR. SO CUTE.

Obviously I love the penguin photos.

I've never seen a hippo stand up in my life. I've only seen them laying down or in the water. So that's awesome you could see him move around for a bit!

I've never seen a black squirrel either! So cool!

Most excellent Canadia Magic Band!

You really can find Disney everywhere. Even at the mall. :rotfl2:

Bass Pro newbie, huh? We have one at our mall near us. They're pretty fun to just wander around in.

My mom totally has one of the IASW dolls! The Dutch one. Mainly because they don't have a Belgian one. :lmao:

Okay, that whale skeleton is just creepy.

Hahaha, Polar bear in a bucket! If I fits I sits.

You didn't know there were dying frogs? :rotfl2: I'm sorry, that's just hysterical. You froot loop dingus! :rotfl:

And a fine job they did too Amber, lol.

Yeah, poor thing. She just needed a break and was back to good in no time.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! OK, so it's not just me that thought, while it would be a horrible name, that it was indeed the species.

I KNOW!!!!! It was so awesome. I guess after watching the hippos do nothing at AK for so long, anything creates excitement.

We are indeed too cool for smiles. :bitelip: Still...

Bahahaha, yes they do indeed. One of them does have the stink eye going on. That's the beauty of a still camera. It always captures the truth.

Honest to God, this was the first one I ever remember seeing. Apparently in Ontario it's not so uncommon, but here... nuthin'.

Darn lazy pandas. ;) They are really cuddly looking though.

Maybe it's just me but, I find the whale bones disturbing. Things in the zoo should be alive! :confused3

Poor Hailey...glad she got to feeling better!

It was just cool to see them. But they could take a lesson from the hippo. Just sayin'.

I actually did too. At first we thought it was some kind of fake dinosaur thing. Nope, a whale. Odd.

I think it may have been in the Africa area and it was a demonstration of some sort. But it still made me giggle.

OMG they were amazing. I love watching jellyfish when they can't sting you.

She did. I think the heat took a toll on her, poor thing.

Woo hoo, caught up. One time I was at the Falls with some people from work that I was traveling with, and we did the Behind the Falls tour. Not gonna lie, when you started off all I could think of was, "This one time... When I was at band camp."
Oh God I would have died too if someone had done that. Although, I'm not sure announcing you're the Unibomber in a public place is the best decision, lol.

I've heard the American side is maybe more relaxing. The Canadian side is certainly not in that there are so many people from all over the world. Kind of like Disney really.

Great update, Rob! I mean, Canadian pandas? Moving hippos? Llama parades? Gotta be one of the better zoo visits I've read about!

Thanks Roni. All those things definitely made for a memorable visit.

Thanks for the Disney-fied tour of the mall, though saddened to see Robin Sparkles was not performing.

Glad you enjoyed your time at the zoo!

Haha, you're quite welcome Phil. Wow, Robin Sparkles reference. Just Wow!

Thanks. I had no idea they did such a thing for a store, but I sure did love it.

So very boring. But totally adorable, in a I would and could rip your face off way. They certainly do need to consider it the next time Country Bear auditions come around.

Yeah, poor thing. She recovered quickly though.

Seriously right?? It was like he did it just for us.

I did. Not the greatest zoo, but certainly worth a visit.

It was a fun time for sure (and yes, Hailey's ickiness notwithstanding which she did recover from quickly). Oh absolutely I can Tracy. Disney is everywhere... you just need to look. And believe me, this is not the end of my Disney sightings.

I just want to say thanks to everyone for their concerns about Hailey, she tends to over heat quickly .She did have a petit mal seizure, she has them often and thankfully we know just what to do when that happens.

Agreed. These people are so wonderful! :grouphug:

Sounds like you were having fun!

Carrie, thanks for the update on Hailey. :)

Oh yes, absolutely. How could I not? It wouldn't have mattered where we were.

I agree, Rob - the hippo moving is a BIG DEAL! :thumbsup2

Haha, thank you. Initially I assumed it must be animatronic!

Now, are the pandas giant or is the experience giant? ;)

Aw man, I wish they were a little more exciting. Have you ever been to San Diego? We saw pandas at the zoo there and they were AWESOME but I guess it just depends on when you see them :confused3

Hahaha, I'll say the experience. The Pandas were average at best. ;)

I never made it down to San Diego when I visited California sadly. I would have LOVED to see the San Diego Zoo. Any time you deal with animals, timing is everything. I did see Pandas when I was a kid though when a Russian Circus came to town.

I know, it was so sad, but she did recover quickly.

It was so cool (and odd) to see a Polar Bear there. I did not expect that.

Hehe, not quite as good as the ones at SeaWorld though.

No lie, I was stoked. I even had more pictures. In fact, I took so many that you could literally make a video from them.

OK, so it's not just me who had never seen one. Honestly, this just so blew me away, Anything new fascinates me I guess, lol.

Why Thank You very much Danielle. I'm loving it more and more all the time.

Oh yes. Disney goggles.

Yeah, this was my first time inside. They actually are rumoured to be coming this way though. It really is an impressive store.

Haha, oh Lord. I would have moved out if my mother bought one of those. Terrifying.

Right?? It was so weird to have that at a zoo. A museum I get. But a Zoo???? Just odd.

He was having a ball too. How great to have nothing but a bucket and yet have the time of your life.

FRUIT LOOP DINGUS!!!!! It was worth being dense just for that Zach Attack!!!!! :thumbsup2

I had been wanting to decorate my MagicBand but reluctant to try, since I am really bad at painting. I can't even paint trim. :confused3

Then I saw your MB and thought - if Rob can do it, then maybe I can too. Well, I don't know how you did such a good job with that Mickey head, because I found it hard to do. That line around the head is narrow. :scared1: I ended up brushing the paint all over and then scraping off the parts I didn't want. It was easier that way. ;)

I have no idea how you made that Mickey head look so good, but kudos to you. It is harder than it looks. :thumbsup2

The animals of Canadia are awesome.

I have never seen a black squirrel either. How odd. I was like:
