FYI - Lettering Delights is having their Dollar Days Sale. Which means you can get their alphabets (images as letters), fonts (ttf can be used in word) and clipart bundles for $1 each. Also looks like their transaction fees are waived for even orders of 1 font!!!

My sister and I usually use these times to load up on the alphas & fonts. Couple that are particularly appropriate for this board are: Walt, Walt Gold, LD Walt, & JDA Cinderella. Don't know when the sale ends, but if still going on on my b-day, will be stocking up on some of their clipart & new releases.

I went to this site, and let me see if I get this right.

It appears to me that if you purchase fonts, you can download them and save them on your computer. It seems that you can do this with alphabets, too, but they also offer the option to make your titles, etc. on their site and it takes away the background. Do I have this right?

Alphas usually come in a transparent .png file so that means there is no background, or white or anything behind the letter. Just the letter will show up. If you were to use this for paper scrapbooking, you would have to print out the letters on paper and then cut them out, as you liked, either on a rectangle or just around the letters.

Thanks, I am new to all this and just learning. I haven't even done any scrapbooking yet, but I will be doing digital, and I am gathering everything and anything I think I might eventually use. When I downloaded the alphas to my iPhoto, it looked as if they were on a white square, which is what made me think I needed to create titles in their program.

Exactly. Some of the older ones still don't have the transparent background. You can get around this in Photoshop by using the magic wand or lasso option to choose the white and then invert the selection, but don't know the steps in iPhoto - sorry. The way I usually do Alphas, is to type my title in their software> click Copy> open a Word doc> create a text box> paste into the text box and resize accordingly. I do about 3-6 titles on a page and then print them all out on white cardstock. Then cut them out and use my xyron X to adhere. I have a step by step word doc (screenshots) that I used to use for a class if anyone wants to PM me their email addy.

This was before the Wishblade - now I do pretty much the same, but in the wishblade software instead of Word and get the wishblade to cut them out for me!!! (FYI - for those with wishblades, I have to adjust the outline variance when I go to do this for some of them. EX: Walt Gold is really thin, so I make it a bit wider and just trim it up when it comes out.)
