Employment searching questions

I dropped off a resume and application for a position that I would LOVE to get almost two weeks ago. Applications were accepted until July 21st. Is it bad to call and see if they have started interviews yet? I do not have my hopes up about getting it, but just would like to know if I was even considered for it.

Also, does it bother you applying for a position that you have no idea where or what company it is? I have been searching Craigslist and it just makes me so nervous applying for jobs to companies/places that will not even tell you the name.
