Employment Freeze? Internship Freeze?

Does anyone know the status on the employment freeze? I was talking to one of my friends that doing her PI in event planning and she wanted to re-apply for the same position but the internship was no longer active.

Im applying in January for the June-Dec PI.

My previous managers for my college program told me to keep checking back.

any words of wisdom or advice?

it all depends on the department. budgets are obviously tight with the current state of the economy.

It is hard to say what will happen next week, next month, next year. Keep checking back and see what is available.

During previous economic slowdowns the responses have been hiring freezes, hour reductions, putting the brakes on some new projects, closing attractions temporarily and such. One priority has been not laying people off, which I think is good considering what has happened elsewhere.

I'm not positive, but I heard some of the TAs were on a hiring freeze.

Some areas that usually take a lot of people for TAs or PIs are taking a lot less. For example, one area that usually gets 20-30 Professional Interns is getting 6 this semester.

I asked my interviewer - whose name I don't want to mention, just in case, but he's important - about the hiring freeze when I had my interview for the CP.

He said yes, Disney are on a hiring freeze but it doesn't affect CP programmes (particularly ICP which take place peak season anyway). I don't know about PI, but he did say that he didn't expect the hiring freeze to last too long and that they were still expecting a very busy summer.

I think also it does vary depending on which area you want to work in. I've heard at times like this they tend to increase the amount of CPs in certain areas because they're cheaper. However I've also been told that the wage doesn't vary that much... I guess it's a question of which source to believe.

I think mainly it affects people applying for FT positions, but it could be likely that PI positions are affected too I guess.

Sometime in the next couple of weeks they'll start showing up. The only thing to do is to keep going crazy, or to check DIS like crazy for somebody discovering them posted. Good luck!

By the end of the month or so. Presentations will be starting in early Feb. I can't wait to apply!

Thank you guys for answering my question. I keep checking the PI website, expecting them to have the program sessions updated but they haven't yet. I am so antsy about applying and moving back to Florida. I've been waiting for this since my CP ended in 2006!
